The Veils I'd first heard of the The Veils maybe a week ago, so their material was fairly new to me. I only really knew the singles from their videos (which are pretty entertaining). I got a sort of Strokes-ish, English indie pop, meandering but excited sound from them. There was also a Bluesy, Jack White-ian style to them. I didn't stick around for too long, because, while good, I honestly felt as though I would have enjoyed their live show more if I had known [...]

The Veils are a New Zealand band based in London, fronted by lead singer/songwriter Finn Andrews. They're like this Pleasure Forever style country-death-rock band that reminds me a lot of the first Tapes 'n Tapes record at times-which is pretty reminiscent of 'Country Death Song' by the Violent Femmes. But that's not a satisfactory description [...]
My year in concert photography continues with one of my favorite bands of 2007, The Veils. I saw them twice this year, once on June 19th at The Grand Emporium in Kansas City MO. and on August 1 at The Replay Lounge in Lawrence KS. Their album "Nux Vomica" came out overseas in 2006 and in the U.S. in 2007. Technically I put this down as an 06 release. It is probably in my top 25 records of all time. When I saw them in June it was [...]
Some brief notes on four albums that I've been thoroughly enjoying lately, but probably won't get around to writing separate reviews about. Here are the first two, tomorrow; the rest. The Veils – Nux Vomica Since releasing 2003's The Runaway Found, The Veils' lineup has changed completely save for frontman Finn Andrews. Despite the success of the debut, this has not been a bad thing at all. While The Veils are really all about Andrews' dramatic vocal [...]
the veils - advice for young mothers to be [hailling from new zealand by way of london, the veils is actually the brainchild of lead singer finn andrews. though some may have already been fans through his 2004 critically acclaimed debut album the runaway found , the veils circa 2007 is actually a completly new lineup that now features finn's classmates from highschool. their gorgeous album nux vomica was released late last year in a few territories and is only now getting a proper release here in the states. romantic, melancholic and lush, [...]
I love seeing shows at The Khyber. But it doesn't happen often that I find a show there that interests me enough to go. The last show I saw at The Khyber was Beirut's set in August . Finally, 10 months later, I'll be headed to The Khyber. This time to see the New Zealand by way of London band The Veils. Wikipedia entry here . I have yet to hear the entirety of their second album, Nux Vomica , but what I have heard instantly puts them near [...]
