Empire Of The Sun [...]

All it took was one song. Australia's Empire of the Sun debuted with Walking on a Dream just a couple of months back on their same-titled album, both of which I immediatly fell in love with. While no song on that album is really new by virtue of the fact the entire album spread more quickly than the wild fires that have recently plagues their home, they are back with the second single, We are the People, and again have accompanied it with a smashing vid! [...]

It's always nice to see a band make an effort, be it with their videos or their outfits. Australia's Empire of the Sun clearly enjoy making an effort on both fronts, even if their lead singer Luke Steele's make-up regime is less Rimmel London and more slapdash Aborigine. But still, you wouldn't expect this kind of thing from The View or The Kooks , so bonus points all round. You may or may not recognise Luke Steele, it depends on how much attention you were paying to the lower chart placings in 2004. [...]
A V E N T U R A VID OF THE WEEK: Empire of the Sun - We Are The People words: Jamie Milton Watching Empire of the Sun's second big-budget/blockbuster video, something really clicks. It becomes obvious that the band may sell more records on merit of their image than their sound. A sound so akin to MGMT will automatically do well in 2009 and to set them apart from other new bands, they've gone for this odd futuristic costume design [...]
We Are The People - Empire In The Sun Walking On A Dream . EMI, 2008.
SIRIUS XM asked me to put together a list of five breakout artists for 2009 late last year. I originally had Empire Of The Sun on my list, but took them off, to possibly avoid needless repetition, expecting Hipster Runoff and Gorilla Vs. Bear to go that direction. I don't know if anyone did pick them, but I know many expect big things from this Austrailian side project (Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele and PNAU's Nick Littlemore). They've released a [...]

The BBC picked Empire Of The Sun to be a 2009 Breakout Act . The Australian duo were already hitting buzz marks when they released their " Walking On A Dream " video in '08 with "Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele and PNAU's Nick Littlemore" affixed, but it's easier picking breakout bands that way. (My prediction: Animal Collective in '09.) In the last video the duo were visiting Shanghai. In this new Josh Logue-directed clip, we find them trekking to Garcia, Xilitla, and the Icamole Desert, Mexico, where they're dressed like MGMT Day Of The Dead Mummers. You'll understand the [...]
