More CDs that I should have already spun, found in a recent purge of my collection. Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew "Spirit If ..." (Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew "Backed Out On The..." And, yes, that is J. Mascis.) Drew, the ringleader of Canadian super group BSS, decided he too wanted a piece of the side project action enjoyed by so many of his mates (Metric, [...]
Album #13: Andorra by Caribou Andorra cemented its place as one of my favourite albums of 2007 just seconds into the first time I listened to it. Melody Day - the opening track - sounds so incredibly bright and modern yet it also nods back to late 60s psychedelia; in some ways it works like The Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows - but in reverse. While the rest of the record doesn't manage to keep up with its lead track, Andorra still manages to be a bloody fine album. [...]

Broken Social Scene frontman Kevin Drew just finished an American tour in support of his new solo record, Spirit If... Before he came to Philly I contacted his label, Arts and Crafts , to chat with him for the Walrus. Arrangements were made, schedules confirmed, and at 2:30 the day of his show I showed up to introduce myself, only to realize he had no idea why I was there. This post has: 2 Images

Gnome has just unleashed version 2.20 of their free GNOME desktop environment. Unlike their primary counterpart, KDE, which releases on a "when its ready schedule", Gnome adheres to a 6 month release cycle. You will see less improvements in new releases when compared to a KDE release, but you will get a consistently more up to date desktop manager in return. Some of the more notable improvements found in Gnome 2.20 are : (more...)

We are proud to represent... seven mirrors one disco ball four lights one bottle of rum three bottles of tequila 62 beers four crew & 17 people
Last week the contrast podcast theme was "musicians with moustaches," and my second choice was going to be Kevin Drew , he of Broken Social Scene fame. He's coming out with a new album Sept. 18th and I'm afraid it's the closest thing to a new BSS album we're going to get for the foreseeable future. I'm not in love with "Tbtf," but "Backed Out on the Cause" (the song that's in the video) [...]
Info from Arts & Crafts : "This song was recorded with Joules Scott Key of Metric and Bang Lime on drums and J Mascis and Kevin Drew on guitar and vocals. The video happened last minute after a Dinosaur Jr show in Toronto where J, Lou, and Murph all came to the shoot to hang out. John Caffery from 'Kids on TV' was hired to come and dance his ASS off and a spontaneous party was put into effect. There were seven mirrors, one disco ball, four lights, one bottle of rum, three bottles of [...]
Hier Kevin Drew von Broken Social Scene mit seinem ersten "Solo-Effort" . "Backed Out on the..." heißt der formidable Track mit noch besserem Video, das ganz lapidar die Frage aufwirft: "Kann man ein Video noch besser machen". Hier im O-Ton das "Making-Of ": "This song was recorded with Joules Scott Key of Metric and Bang Lime on drums and J Mascis and Kevin Drew on guitar and vocals.
