We remember an interview we did with Art Brut, in which they attempted to entertain us with their wisdom and faux pharmacological humor. Frankly, we thought it came off a bit forced and that they took themselves a bit too seriously. Enter Britain's Johnny Foreigner and their attempt to charm us with music and their interpretation of the way of the world. I remember going to see Guided By Voices shortly after they signed to Matador and as they prepared to join a Lollapalooza tour. Despite the lofty expectations of the crowd, Robert Pollard showed up, [...]
Today we have a video twofer by the U.K's Johnny Foreigner . It's always exciting to watch a band in their energetic, formative stage; punky, pouty and unschooled. They're not totally green; they've already built themselves a nice following across the pond, and even have a logo: a frightened cartoon ghost. So it's all starting to come together for them. Duelling leads Alexei Barrow and Kelly Southern's shouts and arguments play nicely against drummer Junior Elvis' hard driving, angry beats. I'm not sure what they're all so angry about [...]
Continuing with the JF day, this is the promo clip for Eyes Wide Terrified: [Part of Johnny Foreigner Sunday ]
COULD IT BE THE START OF SOMETHING? The most exciting piece of news we've heard in the past few weeks—and yes, we know that the minor states are still voting their little hearts out—is this: The Lodger wears orange pants. A long-standing favorite over here, they've also managed to make an album called Life is Sweet (released in the States on Slumberland , at some indefinite point in the near future), and release a single, "The Good Old Days," all while possibly wearing the aforementioned trousers. Although the song is certainly [...]
So Johnny Foreigner 's debut album has leaked. They've had much love on this blog, and I was one of the first blogs to give them a mention back in early 2007. 'Waited Up 'Till It Was Light' is due out on June 2nd, preceded by the 'Eyes Wide Terrified' single in May (see embed vid below). Considering their repeated exposure on here, I think I'll go on a bit of a rant about album leaks rather than focusing on the band, for once. [...]
Tireless indie rock superheroes Johnny Foreigner sprung the video for its brilliant, brilliant forthcoming single "Eyes Wide Terrified" on a largely unexpecting public this morning and the clip -- posted above -- is tops. Melding tasteful performance footage in a darkened studio (kinda reminds us of this , but, you know, we're old) and cohort Lewes Herriot 's entertaining ghost cartoonimations, the band's first proper video even has a bit of a surprise ending (one, incidentally, that mirrors somewhat the perhaps even more brilliant clip for Los Campesinos! ' maddeningly good pogofest "Death To [...]
