Guilty Music Monday #48- Guilty Grammy Edition
While still basking in the glory of the Lakers victory over the Cavaliers, I did something that I don't believe I've ever done before...I watched the Grammys. Very aware of the corporate, lip-synched, auto-tuned bullshit that I was about to witness, I begrudgingly flipped to CBS and sunk into my couch with the cynical and pretentious attitude that you might expect from someone who writes for a music blog. However, there were definitely some guilty music gems amid the incessant rambling of Neil Portnow, who randomly implored our President to appoint a secretary of the arts to his cabinet, as [...]

The Best Of The Grammys
Considering that Adele was honoured as the "best new artist" of last year, The Grammys lie somewhere between gaffer tape and Chuck Taylors in the "relevance to music" scale. That being said, everyone knows the Grammys aren't a barometer of good music rather a gazillion hour snoozefest peppered with shit jokes, the potential for controversy (thanks Chris Brown) and awesome live collaborations. Here are two of our favourites... MIA (The Grammys strangely coincided with the exact date she was due to give birth) who was joined by a swag of hip-hop A-listers to perform "Swagger Like Us" offered [...]
Last Night's Grammy Awards: Did I miss anything?
Not really. Seeing how I live in a totally different time zone, I preferred a good night's sleep, than to risk loosing a few precious hours of life on a load of hip bullshit. I woke up in the morning, read Stereogum's live blog from the event as well as a few twitters ( Diplo was hilarious!), afterward I conveniently had my ham and egg breakfest. Yeah, there goes another one, I say, while I devour a piece of omlet, with a fugitive sip of orange juice in between mouthfuls. Around late last year, when [...]
Best and Worst :: Coldplay @ the Grammy's and TVOTR on SNL
It was a big weekend for music. It was allegedly music's "biggest night." Chris Martin was on "60 Minutes," the Grammy's had performances from everyone who sold 1,000,000 plus records this year, and TV on the Radio was on Saturday Night Live. Of course, some of these things played out well and some of them didn't. First, the worst. Later scholars will debate if this was the worst moment of live
The 2009 Grammys: Just The Good Parts
NARAS's flirtation with attempting to matter in 2009 went alright last night. There was so much promised we had Videogum come over to help us log our reactions across as many internet platforms as possible, and even with all that fun and all the performances it still felt like 32 hours of schelp in four-hour drag, with some predictable awards and terrible production decisions. The case of Stevie Wonder says it all: In just one night the show managed to make him the soundtrack to the Grammy sponsor list and the 4th Jonas Brother. On the award front, [...]
Video: Radiohead / M.I.A., Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and T.I. / U2 / Estelle and Kanye West / Coldplay [ft. Jay-Z]: Various Songs (Live at the Grammys)
The big winners at the Grammys last night were Coldplay (calling uncle here, I'm finally starting to like some of those songs-- they won rock album of the year and song of the year), Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (they really cleaned up-- record of the year for Raising Sand and a few others) and Lil Wayne (he took home the prize for rap album ). Performances ranged from mind-meltingly awful (Kid Rock) to good, with highlights including the rumored Radiohead and the USC Marching Band on [...]
