Ok indie-cindys. Your other favorite Bright Eyes -esque band, The Antlers , have been remixed by Buffetlibre and in my humble opinion, is better than the original? Soz. Buffetlibre's kinda like the Spanish version of the Twelves , making indie songs indie-r with their remixes. You can grab their remixes of Patrick Wolf and Little Boots for free on their website here . In the meantime, tell me you don't like this Antler's remix? :) Buy [...]

All I really can say is "holy shit." I can't believe it took me this long to discover The Antler's Hospice (Eve, was months ahead). The album is richly emotional, comforting and haunting. The album's concept revolves around a lover/hospice who is battling the demons of watching someone die and reflecting on their relationship. While writing the album, Peter Silberman found guidance from the words of Michael Lewis' Sylvia. Sylvia is the story of Michael's relationship with poet Sylvia Plath.... Photo courtesy of @MSG "Thank you . . . you all right here for making this the best year of my life." Those were the heartfelt words spoken by Antlers leader Peter Silberman toward the end of their show last night at Bowery Ballroom (12/15). Sharon Van Etten (who opened the show) joined the band on vocals to bookend the set on opener 'Thirteen' and closer 'Wake'. In between were the [...]

As a precursor to our impending year-end list, we've asked some of our favorite artists to select their five favorite releases of 2009. The Antlers have quietly become the breakout band of the year. Their third album Hospice has shown up with high placing on year-end lists such as The Music Slut , Stereogum and NPR's All Things Considered . And just last night they headlined a sold-out Bowery Ballroom. I think you get the point - the album is amazing! Here are The [...]

This is probably the hardest best-of list I have ever complied—too many great albums this year! I almost caved in and made a top 50 list, but thankfully didn't. This will not be the only 'best-of-09' post you will see on this blog because 1) there are just so many incredible releases this year and I don't want to leave anything out and 2) I love making best-of lists! For now, please enjoy my 30 favourite albums of 2009! 30. Emmy The Great: First Love Emma-Lee Moss's fantastic songwriting and [...]

Your part on 'Thirteen' is beautiful. It fits so well with the album, it's fantastic. Sharon Van Etten: I feel really lucky to have been a part of it. Peter (Silberman) is a genius. The first [...]

The Antlers album Hospice has been getting some positive buzz. Thanks to Melody Lamb for recommending me this album and happy that I got it signed by the band members. This is one most intriguing album of 2009. Would have expected this album be like the typical indie alternative rock album. But it isn't, this album is very conceptual hence the album title. Its listening to this person's journey through hospital having to battle between life and death. Parts of the album is very spacious and parts is very [...]

Brooklyn based indie rock band The Antlers have just added tour dates for Europe in November. The Antlers was originally intended to be a solo effort for Singer/Guitarist Peter Silberman. Shortly after moving to New York Silberman isolated himself completely from his family and friends. Not much is known as to why Silberman spent two years in exile. During this period he wrote most of what would become the two EP's "Cold war" and "New York Hospitals". Towards the end of his isolation Silberman brought Lemer and Cicci into The Antlers becoming more of a collaborative effort. Hospice [...]

One way to judge a new album is by both the number of reviews it gets (attention) and the quality of those reviews (engagement). This is particularly true of a lesser known band since you can dismiss the assertion that everyone is reviewing the album because of the band's previous success. And so it is with the latest effort by The Antlers, Hospice , which has been receiving very solid reviews over at the big board --now holding a top ten placement for the year. When there are so many reviews (and so [...]
We will definitely be getting to Monolith Festival early on Saturday to catch The Antlers, one of the bands we have on our must-see list . Their album Hospice is hauntingly beautiful and sure to finish atop many blogger's and other site's best-of-lists (including ours). It garnered an 8.5 review from Pitchfork and NPR placed it at the top of their best-of-list so far. A little background on the band: Peter Silberman, vocalist/guitarist (and many more instruments) of The Antlers originally [...]
Video for "Two" from Hospice . Hospice is The Antlers' first album for Frenchkiss. Directed by Ethan Segal and Albert Throw. I've been hearing a lot about this album. I haven't gotten into it too deeply, but it's apparently a very personal album about losing a loved one to bone cancer and it's hit a lot of people pretty hard. Pigeons and Planes
