What do you know? It's Norway Day (or more correctly Norwegian Constitution Day ). Fitting as we just took in a-ha's triumphant return to Los Angeles this weekend at Club Nokia. First time seeing them, and completely impressed. The guys played material which spanned their entire career. We had no idea how many amazing songs they possessed. In the U.S., Norwegian popsters a-ha might be known mostly for their soaring '80s smash "Take On Me," which has remained a ubiquitous radio and video staple down through the decades. Haven't done a guilty pleasure post in a while, so I figger it's time. "Take On Me" was the one with that video. Y'know the one . . . The band's awful name, A-Ha, told you nothing about them. Nor did the song reveal much; it was confectioner packaged pop, as much a child of the 1980s as a progenitor of it. I was sick of this song within weeks. One of our favorite videos of the 1980's definately has to be A-Ha's "Take Me On". We never get tired of seeing A-Ha race through animated sequences to escape violent thugs while trying to save the girl. Decades later, we...

Something about the video for Allison Iraheta's "Friday I'll Be Over U" makes the actual song seem a little less like a Kelly Clarkson leftover from five years ago. Maybe it's the way the clip pays homage to a-ha's classic "Take On Me" vid by employing rotoscoping. Or maybe it's just the fact that Kris Allen and Adam Lambert's latest singles have completely underwhelmed.
