Spector are a 5-piece rock band from London, and they have been gaining quite the buzz lately. They have that good old Brit Pop sound mixed with the modern day guitar indie rock. Spector would be a decent mirror image to what The Vaccines brought to the 2011 music scene. They have all the same catchy guitar, sing along anthems and could very well be in line for the title of the new Vaccines of 2012. Frontman Fred Macpherson has been in a few bands (Les Incompetents, Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man) before forming Spector. He spent a few [...]
While I’m not at all complaining about hearing I'm On A Boat three times at my real prom, Spector is the band I wish had performed at my imagined Napoleon Dynamite-in-Space-themed prom night. Listening to...

The BBC's annual self-fulfilling prophecy was published last night, with writers, radio producers, DJs and assorted other pundits all explaining who is going to be A Big Deal next year. Of course, sometimes things don't quite go to plan (paging Mona) - but broadly, you can expect to be hearing rather more of the 15 acts on this list over the course of the next year. The odds of familiarity are even higher this year because, for reasons best known to themselves, the voters have decided to nominate a handful of bands who are already a certifiable Big [...]

He’s dated Peaches Geldof, was previously in both Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man and Les Incompetents, wears the most ridiculous thick rimmed circular framed glasses and in an interview with the NME compared his new group to Spandau Ballet. He’s possibly going to be the geek fantasy of a few girls whilst the rest of his gang is going to get more than a few attentive looks as well. He’s also going to upset a few (or possibly a lot) of people with his rhetoric; a strange mix of self-knowing depreciation and hyperbole at the same time. Some folks are going to absolutely hate [...]

Here's the best videos from London acts that SOIWT has stumbled upon this week: The Salt Flats - Sail Away Into The Sea If you like singalong folk, this debut EP number is for you. If you like videos with women offering scary smiles straight out of a particularly fucked-up Brothers Grimm fairytale, ditto. If you like neither of those things, you probably won't like this. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Veronica [...]
there appears to be a BRANDON FLOWERSesque-soundalike on vox from nodnoL quintet the SPECTOR . and they return to Efes in their new WOT YOU WANTED video. oh and they live around the corner from us. wotyougot

The idea of the 'difficult' second album has been rife for quite a while now. When you're first song is as good as Spector 's Never Fade Away , though, just the second single has a hell of a lot to live up to. It's a good job, then, that What You Wanted is just as impressive. If I'm honest, I don't think it's quite as catchy, but considering how often I found myself randomly singing their debut track that would be asking rather a lot. It has, however, got just as much of an 80s [...]

Following up their debut single, " Never Fade Away " comes the video for London five-piece Spector 's second single, "What You Wanted", which drops on September 19th via Luv Luv Records. "What You Wanted" is bursting with glittering guitars, an infectous melody and oozes with nostalgia and unabashed honesty. There need to be more pop-esque songs like this on the planet. The band will be playing a handful of dates in addition to performances at Reading and Leeds. Have a look below for more info. Spector Live Dates 26/08 - It's Yours' [...]

B3SCI radar makers Spector have returned with their second offering "What You Wanted". The new single has proved worth the wait; it's a solid follow-up to the irresistible qualities of "Never Fade Away". More to come from this five-piece out of London... Spector - What You Wanted Spector ( Facebook ) Rating: 8.28
With already having penned a monster of a tune this year with " Never Fade Away " on there first outing, newly favorite collective Spector has released a new single and visual for "What You Wanted," which sees daylight on September 19th via LuvLuvLuv records.
There appears to be a Brandon Flowers-soundalike on vocals for this London band. Spector will therefore be saddled with comparisons to The Killers , and this is a sad fact, as this is considerably better than anything Flowers has been involved with in three years. ‘What You Wanted’ doesn’t feature any kind of wall-of-sound production, but it’s big, bold and crying out to be heard. Having impressed MFM at Tramlines last month, the band’s new single’s out on September 19th and is impressive stuff. The video is [...]
To accompany the release they have taken a trip to their local snooker club, probably in Dalston, and played a gig to some uninterested punters.

Words: Saam Das Following up their impressive debut single ( 'Never Fade Away' ) comes the new video for single numero two, 'What You Wanted', out in September. Spector once again combine a solemn, romantic nostalgia with early-to-mid-noughties American indie stylings. Watch the video below, filmed in hipster hangout du jour, Efes pool bar in Dalston. The video hints at a return to the more boisterous days of Les Incompetents , albeit smothered [...]

The first time I caught Spector live it was in Dalston pool club Efes. It was full to the gills with singer Fred's indie heroes. More on that here, in my recent Dollars to Pounds ... read more
