I missed you guys. I have some stuff to share with you all: 1) If people dismiss the new Arcade Fire album, I will seriously pull out the iron boot and proceed by througholy kicking many tight-assed bottoms. It leaked not too long ago, and not that I encourage downloading it (you should ALWAYS buy albums after you sample them), but I did take a peek at this Neon Bible. This record is so pure and holy that it still hasn't sinked in my head...yet. The [...]

This indie five piece out of Birmingham, England have wowed critics with their sound which is reminiscent of The Strokes, The Editors, and The Cure. Currently the band is preparing to go on tour across the UK this spring to promote their self released EP in 2006 entitled "So Much For Technology." They also are working on some new material for an upcoming EP to be recorded by the renowned Gavin Monaghan of the Magic Garden Recording Studio, who has worked with artists like The Editors, The Smiths, and Elvis Costello. A few days ago the Cold War Kids released the new video for their first single "Hang Me Up To Dry" off of their critically acclaimed debut album Robbers on High Street . Here's some background I got on the video... Directed by talented duo the Malloy Brothers (of The White Stripes, Foo Fighters and Wolfmother fame), whom shot it on black and white reversal film, the video for "Hang Me Up [...]

Asted-way Ittle-lay Eejays-day! It's The View's new video for their massive single 'Wasted Little DJs'! Do we dig?
I don't really know how I have this band. I was jut randomly browsing through my iTunes and there they were, so I gave them a listen and man was I impressed. First impressions: they are the Under the Influence of Giants disco beat feel mixed with Bloc Party's defined, British sense of song orchestration. Though their sound is almost impossible to define, this is the closest I could come. The band has been classified from psychedelic indie-rock, to indie-dace - both of which only give half a story. You [...]

sweet emo airplane shot. jesus. So, to make a long story short, here's how my weekend went down... Her: Alex, we need to talk... Me: Fuck. Yeah, but whatever. C'est la vie, know what I'm sayin'? My friends, such as indiechristoph here claim that it was bad karma for my blatant violation of "bros before hos." I tend to agree. Regardless, it's a perfect excuse for a good old-fashioned indie-kid break up mix. Listen [...]

So I was so overwhelmed with my (re)discovery of Muncie-based This Story , I decided to drop them a line. And luckily enough, I set up an interview for all of you people to read, discover, and converse about. Here's my chat with guitarist/lead vocalist Gavin Wilkinson: ic : First off, how did you guys form together? gavin : I started playing horrible solo acoustic shows when I was sixteen, but quickly became extremely displeased with everything. I thought the music was lacking as [...]

Mr. Fiasco, you are my idol. Really, you tear it up real real good. I can't even fathom how much hip-hop needs you right now. I mean, seriously, dude. People are waiting for hip-hop to evolve, and with Food & Liquor , it's finally happened. Jesus, this record is so damn tasty. Yes, I don't understand why everyone doesn't own your record. It's a shame. I bet if they gave those MP3's below a listen, they'd pull out their lunch money. Y'know, it's just an idea. [...]
So I checked out this band because there was a bit of buzz about them. I came to the conclusion that they I dig their alt rock tunes. It's nothing you or actually I havn't heard before yet there is always a place for those bands. They kinda remind me of how The Subways came around ohhhh about a long time ago. [Subways live review here. ] Notwithstanding I think it's worth a listen, especially since they have their whole album streaming on myspace right now. Their first single "Wasted Little DJ's" is pretty [...]
As I mentioned before, I am absolutely pumped for the onslaught of records coming these next couple of months--and one of the top ones I'm anticipating is Maria Taylor's Lynn Teeter Flower. If any of you are familiar with her earlier solo work or her stuff with Azure Ray, I bet you are as excited as I am. Oh come on, admit it. Her debut 11:11 is one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriter albums, and from the songs I have below, I think her upcoming record will be just as enticing. Don't believe me? [...]
There are some groups that inevitably surprise you; and last summer, This Story did that for me. I saw them play at an in-store one Sunday afternoon, and I immediately asked for a CD afterward their show. The response I got was vague, but I soon came to find out they hadn't released anything yet, but it would happen soon. And when their record did come out (entitled Darling, It's War ) it was exactly what I expected it to be: bouncy, textured, and emotional. Think if Conor Oberst formed a big folk band with [...]
How about some young kids today? This band, Winterkids, are guilty of creating hooks so deadly they might just kill your first born...even if he's not born yet. Unfortunately, they're also guilty of rhyming "episode" with "episode" and "photograph" with "photograph"...in two seperate songs! Now, I can forgive them for the hooks - who wouldn't? - but the lazy songwriting is unforgiveable, even for (winter)kids. Conor Oberst was writing fantastic songs at like eight, and this band, who are all around 19-20, seem to be crafting songs without the aid of a thesaurus, or even a [...]
Yes, that is correct. Because of the heated anticipation of Bright Eyes' upcoming Four Winds EP , Saddle Creek decided to dish out this song. It definitely has a country tone to it, but it doesn't push away what his last two records accomplished. Conor Oberst's voice continues to mature after each release, and this song is no exception. The instrumentals on this track are murky, despondent, and inevitably inviting--it beckons to be listened over and over again. If you can't tell, I'm fucking excited for this EP (not to mention upcoming LP [...]
To celebrate the upcoming release of Explosions In The Sky's All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone (which is like, amazing...just so you know), I'll let you in on this sweet live video of one of my favorite songs, "Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean." These guys are some of the most unrecognized musical geniuses of our era. I'm fucking serious, dude. Just watch. If you liked that, you should buy some of their [...]
