Top 12 Albums of 2012 (Julia) 12. Tramp - Sharon Van Etten Favorite Track : "Give Out" Totally enchanted by Sharon Van Etten's voice. Such a good album for a rainy day, and considering it rains most of the time here in Seattle, it's pretty much a good album for every day. 11. There's No Leaving Now - The Tallest Man on Earth [...]
HOW TO DRESS WELL, BEACON, HUSTLE AND DRONE ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) The minimal, haunting R&B of How to Dress Well (the alter ego of Tom Krell) is delicately, icily beautiful, with glowing crystals of sound forming to make tragic love songs. New York duo Beacon opens, and they're no strangers to melancholy, offering subdued electronica that pulses and shivers. NED LANNAMANN THE SWORD, GYPSYHAWK, AMERICAN SHARKS ( Hawthorne Theatre , 1507 SE Cesar E. Chavez) While metalheads of [...]
As November rains its way into December, the Bay Area does its part in the War on Christmas with the onset of our annual secular holiday concert season. Relive that scene in My So-Called Life where Rayanne went flyering drunk in the school parking lot when Toad the Wet Sprocket play not one but two [...]
This one-man bedroom project offers a haunting and gorgeously distorted perspective on R&B.
Filed under: News , Exclusive How to Dress Well Facebook Pop music is riddled with artists who use the form to excise their inner demons. So while many have accused (and praised) Tom Krell for ripping R&B apart at the seams with the sonic presentation of his How to Dress Well project, his latest album, Total Loss , continues to push emotional boundaries in the most classic sense. Talking via cell phone [...]

While R&B eats itself whole through endless collaborations, skits, the words “David Guetta featuring”, stadium rave and the attempted, unfathomable rehabilitation of convicted woman-beater Chris Brown (only this morning I witnessed 4Music unveiling his latest music video like it was the second coming), there’s a small group of artists fighting to maintain the soul of the genre. We've already had Frank Ocean ’s powerful Channel Orange as his contribution to the fight in 2012 and various releases from The Weeknd , but before those acts came How To [...]

What a week we have in store! Though there are loads of great bands in town, it's Lord Huron we're most excited to see. With their debut full-length finally hitting shelves this week, they're is visiting our fine city to celebrate with shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan. If you can't make it to one of their shows, try and catch Perfume Genius with Dusted on Tuesday or The Mountain Goats with Matthew E. White at Music Hall of Williamsburg on either Saturday or Sunday. Enjoy this beautiful week [...]
Really enjoying the new How To Dress Well record, Total Loss . Here's a song off it entitled "Cold Nites".
Pictured: Sleep Bolt Thrower is finally coming to Austin. Did you hear that? BOLT THROWER IS FINALLY COMING TO AUSTIN. They're one of the bands announced for the initial lineup of 2013's Chaos in Tejas. If you look at the flyer, you'll see why their logo is the most prominent. As they don't tour and rarely play the States, this is a huge deal. We thought Autopsy at Chaos 2010 couldn't be topped

licht aus, »total loss« an. auf seinem zweiten album trägt how to dress well-mann tom krell trauerflor. ?i love to fly (?). the only bad part about flying is having to come back down to the fuckin' world...

‘Total Loss’ won’t give you any fashion advice, but it does offer an album of spectral beauty. This is actually the second album from How To Dress Well, aka Tom Krell. Where his debut introduced us to his sound, the second album develops the songwriting; where his debut was all wordless murmurings and rich atmosphere through ambient drones and crashing, distorted noises, this follow-up has a stronger melodic focus and greater integration of the R&B and hip-hop trappings that have influenced him [...]
I only recently got really into philosophy-graduate-student-tu rned-experimental-R&B artist Tom Krell's project How to Dress Well, whose debut album Love Remains (2010) received positive reviews across the board. I've been listening to songs like "Lover's Start" and "Ready For The World" on repeat on long bike rides down by the lake, and the sadness in the songs seems appropriate for the end of summer. His sophomore album Total Loss is scheduled to be released on the 18th of this month, and he has already posted a few tracks from it. One of them is [...]

Flying Lotus [...]

HTDW is playing a few shows in Europe this summer and while he has no formal North American tour plans, he will be playing Santos on October 8 . Tickets [...]

How To Dress Well, the musical moniker for Brooklynite Tom Krell, is nestled somewhere between The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), the trending artist of the month Frank Ocean , and Active Child . With his debut LP Love Remains, Krell carved out his own space in this R&B revival popularized by Ocean, Tesfaye, and even Passion Pit with their new single "Constant Conversations." Krell's second single - "Cold Nites" - off of his upcoming sophomore effort Total Loss steps away from a masked, ethereal timbre, moving toward a crisper showcase of his [...]

Das Debüt von How To Dress Well alias Tom Krell hatte einige Wellen geworfen. 'cold nites' comes out of experiences i've had w respect to [...]
