The new Sword album has me feeling aggressive, so today I'm going to keep that theme rolling and share a track from the punk-enthused Ceremony . It's off a limited edition split 73 that will only be available on their upcoming tour with Titus Andronicus . Enjoy. : Ceremony - Everything Burns : This track packs a fierce sound and it powers through its two minute runtime like something is chasing it. Expect to be left with either a smile or a bewildered look on your face. Hopefully, it's a healthy mix of the [...]
With FYF going on down in LA this weekend, we're getting a decent spillover of excellent shows up here in the Bay Area. Though not quite at Fauxchella levels, it's nice to have a Faux Your Festival going on right now. And since your regular host for this column, Dakin Hardwick, will be enjoying himself at [...]
For its first LP for Matador, this California punk five-piece is quite comfortable eschewing extremes of excellence and awfulness (not to mention its hardcore roots) to be unambitiously average. In the lead-up to the release of Ceremony's debut LP on Matador, the label's official blog has touted the California quintet's previous efforts as being "widely seen as the most compelling, unusual and progressive hardcore of the last five years". While the truth of that statement in regard to those recordings is a topic beyond the scope of this review (though let it be known that they did rock pretty [...]

The Zoo track inspires some intense moshing.
Ceremony // “World Blue” Here is a brand new video for “World Blue” by California hardcore punk band Ceremony . The band is getting ready to release their new album Zoo , an album that I can foresee being one of the best of the year. Although the band hasn’t been together all that long, they manage to play with an intensity and a ferocity that typically comes with age and that energy is evidenced in this video. It’s easy to hear the band’s [...]
Ceremony have released a video for "World Blue" "World Blue" is from Zoo , out on March 6th via Matador Records ! As a huge Ceremony fan, I am still need to get used to the band's "new sound"... for me, they went from being one of the best hardcore bands to a mediocre garage rock band. I guess they ARE "sick of hardcore" .

While Ceremony's latest video, "World Blue," may only clock in at 1:39, it still provides a great primer for those just coming around to this California hardcore band. Like label-mates, Fucked Up, the term hardcore is used loosely, here, for aggressive punk rock is just the starting point. On songs like "World Blue," one can also hear the sound of more mainstream punk artists, like Bad Religion or Green Day from the '90s, as well as the stomp of blue-collar, punch-in-and-punch-out rock. It's unrelenting, fierce, and after 1:39, will leaving you wanting another steel-toed kick. [...]
