Celebrities cameo in music videos all the time. Whether it’s a way for them to launch an image makeover (Megan Fox hoping to be a serious actress in “Love the Way You Lie”) or just an excuse to make out with their significant other (all eyes on Ben Affleck slapping J.Lo’s ass), big stars seem to love lending their famous faces to help videos get more play. Once in a great while, the celebrity cameo goes beyond the usual eye-rolling “look at me” antics and is genuinely hilarious. So, take a load-off and watch some amazing [...]
It's not often that the pop charts will surprise you. After all, the average consumer in most countries doesn't have time to delve too deep into an artist's catalogue. They don't often pick up o... Continue reading "The Top 10 Weirdest U.S. No. 1 Hits" >

For today's Sample Sunday I've decided to post something a little different from the usual hip-hop music that I normally cover. Although rap and hip-hop are the genres most commonly associated with borrowing clips and loops from other artists, indie bands have been experimenting with using samples for quite some years now. The funniest thing though is that most of these band's fans have no idea that the music that they are listening to is not 100% original. Even though there are some good tracks out there with great samples, a lot of the time I find that the use [...]
Vampire Weekend and Bright Eyes are set to headline a new Long Island music festival. The first-year two-day event goes by the name ' MTK Music Festival ' and will take place
You know. Just because Jake Gyllenhaal made the cut. We had to. Oh, P.S. it's the RZA!
We'll continue our top 25 countdown with songs #5 through #1. #5: All of the Lights - Kanye West The third and final selection from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy , "All of the Lights," explodes following a swollen string section interlude, morphing the album's impeccable middle section, with "Power" leading into "All of the Lights" and swirling off with "Monster." With that, "All of the Lights" is the album's polished core, swimming in blasting drum beats, guest voices, and a daunting platform -- [...]

Xmas being over, I found a little time to write this article, summing up my musical year in 30 albums better than the others (at least to me). I defy anyone to tell me 2010 wasn't good for music! #30 - PVT [...]

Taking notes from Paramore and expanding the rock, My Arcadia is bringing their sound to your ears. Only forming a year and a half ago, the New York band is already generating buzz. Lead singer Jacqui Sandell has a perfect voice for the guitar driven sound and pop influences. My Arcadia was chosen as a top 20 unsigned band of 2009 by Purevolume , and it is well deserved. Their tunes are catchy, in your [...]

On Friday evening (I know, I know) I was aimlessly flipping through the ol' cable box, ready to turn the TV set off, when I saw RZA's face on NBC. Apparently, RZA was guest starring on a new NBC show starring Jimmy Smits (of NYPD Blue fame). I only saw the tail-end of the episode but RZA was playing.. a wait for it..a person jailed for a crime he didn't commit. Anyway if you care to see RZA's acting the embed is below. Now, these days, a rapper appearing on a TV series are [...]

![[VIDEO x MP3 ] Charlize Theron in Brandon Flower's 'Crossfire' and other notable music video cameos](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2672243_lg.jpg)
CAMEO ALERT! CAMEO ALERT! I don't know about you but celebrity cameos in music videos really draw me in. Especially if the theme of the music video is way out of their element. And not gonna lie, star power really makes for a good promotion for the artist and definitely raises those album sales. Maybe this was Brandon Flower 's aim for his upcoming SOLO album , with the single Crossfire featuring the svelte and daring Charlize Theron as the heroine beating the bejesus out of ninjas, or maybe not. The [...]

I was more than a little busy Monday so I wasn't able to check up on the mighty Twitter much. Apparently I picked the wrong day to be occupied as everyone and their mother decided to announce that they were coming to the Lou. Obviously I'm still swamped because it took me until Wednesday to actually put together a post, but hey better late than never! Here's a preview of some of the shows coming to town later this year, St. Louis you're blowing up! As always check out the STL Concert Calendar [...]

Oké guys, here is something I've been trying to do every year, but for some reasons always ends up in the trash can. Summer is all about music festivals and every year I try to do atleast 2 or more. I'm planning on writing up two festival guides (maybe a third about Pukkelpop ) first up Rock Werchter 2010 (this post) and short after it Les Ardentes . Rock Werchter isn't immediately a "dance" festival (the name probably gave that away already) but does feature some interesting electro-pop-indie-rock bands that wouldn't look bad on [...]
Shortly after listening to Contra all the way through for the first time at the beginning of this year, I listed "Run" and "Giving Up The Gun" as my early favorites. I don't know if I should be surprised or not, but the two remain my favorites from the album. I know many [...]

Hey, I'm not one to judge, nor am I one to pry on political correctness, but is it just me or are music videos getting a little too-big-for-their-boots? I was just thinking recently about a few videos, and how some of them are done really well, and how others are done well in some respects, but maybe have gone a bit too far. When I heard one of my favourite comedians Peter Serafinowicz - mute scientist of Look Around You , terrifying voice of Darth Maul , zombie housemate of Shaun ( [...]
