Video: Cults - You Know What I Mean

I walked into the airy reception of the Radisson Blu in Cavelossim to wait for Brian Oblivion of Cults to shoot the shit with me for about a half hour by the hotel pool, and tell me what they were doing here on the other side of the world playing Live From The Console, Goa. And of course, what the hell his band was all about. I'd never imagined a band like Cults would come to India, and to be honest, five years ago, any American indie band coming to India was a rather distant dream. [...]

Despite our compilations of the week's best videos, it's difficult to remember many of them for long. Each week brings something new to marvel at and yada yada yada your mind totally erases any memory of that Kanye West video you gasped at while eating cereal one Thursday in April. Whereas you can essentially  live with a song, most videos are consumed with what amounts to a glance and a nod. Granted, that's not the case for all of them, and, hey, wouldn't you know that's why we're sitting here with 25 of them in December. So, [...]

Cults’ “You Know What I Mean” is a slow-paced, emotionally charged little number off the band's self-titled debut (on In The Name Of/Columbia), and the song’s video is every bit as good. Mixing the sweet with the sad, the clip focuses on an unlikely romance in the middle of a circus camp. Played by bandmates [...]

Almost a year later, Cults release a video for "You Know What I Mean." The dare devil theme video has a slow and solemn quality to it that is oddly fitting. Listening to the track, I'm reminded of the hoopla surrounding this album that was surprisingly omitted from many end of the year lists. Why was that? Also, isn't Cults the original Lana Del Ray blurred-crossover-controversy? Everyone upheld them as this DIY band bursting onto the scene with their EP, only later to learn they were groomed by a major, and precedingly dropped by the indie buzz scene [...]

Today Cults will debut the long awaited video for their lovelorn track “You Know What I Mean” on NPR’s All Songs Considered: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allso ngs/2012/02/08/146462475/the-d ark-romance-of-cults-you-know- what-i-mean The songs “quiet/loud dynamic that ramps up the drama with every chorus” (Pitchfork) was released in early 2010 and has become the band’s crowd entrance point of no return. The video was directed by Isaiah Seret who also collaborated with the band for their controversial video for “Go Outside.” And if you look closely, you may recognize a few familiar faces… [...]
