Wild Nothing: Thurs, March 7th @ Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane

Wild Nothing: Thurs, March 7th @ Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane The cosy underground club Alhambra was the perfect venue for the mind fuzzing dream-pop tunes of Wild Nothing. They took to stage amidst the crowd of young, shoegaze loving fans. This was the band's first performance in Australia and they began their tour spectacularly. A warm vibration filled the room as frontman Jack Tatum led the five-piece band into tracks from both his first album, Gemini  and the 2012 release Nocturne . As a band that began from one teenager’s musical tinkering on his college computer, Wild Nothing have really come into their own. With [...]

Wild Nothing was the most relevant & authentic band of 2k12

Wild Nothing was the most relevant & authentic band of 2k12 In 2k12, I fell out of love with the indie music scene . My mind became clouded with the rise of the undeserving buzzbands, the broken way that blogs think they are supposed to post as much bullshit as possible, and my own drive to 'stay alive' by blogging abt shit that I don't even care about. I often think back to what 'formative spirit of indie' possessed me to even enjoy 'the scene' enough to start a blog about it. I've been trying to rediscover the elements that made it all fun. I forgot how 2 [...]

Captured Tracks - DIIV and Wild Nothing

DIIV "How Long Have You Known?" (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
While I'm always happy to see some of my old favorite bands like Redd Kross and the dBs release new music, I do listen to music from new bands as well. A couple things on my shopping list include new records from Brooklyn's Captured Tracks label. Captured Tracks is a relatively new label, but they've managed to release a lot music in a short time and also establish a relatively consistent aesthetic. DIIV (formerly Dive) released their first LP Oshen in June. I'm still waiting to score my own copy as it keeps selling out at [...]

Listen: Wild Nothing – Paradise

Listen: Wild Nothing – Paradise After "Shadow" , Jack Tatum has released another track off of the upcoming  Wild Nothing   album, Nocturne , called " Paradise " that features the band's signature beach-y, sunny, and warm sounds. The track has a sneaky way of making you feel like you're living in the 80s or maybe watching the closing credits of the Breakfast Club (or any John Hughs film, for that matter), and its fantastic. Its also super dance-able (and kind of difficult to listen to while sitting at a desk). Listen to " [...]

Wild Nothing- “Paradise”

Wild Nothing // "Paradise"
Wild Nothing drops yet another track from it's forthcoming album, which will drop via Captured Tracks on August 28th. The title: Nocturne . If the last track Wild Nothing dropped signified a crush on the 80s, "Paradise" is pure infatuation. The drum beat and synth sound a lot like something that would have backed a New Order track back in the day. The low-toned vocals are a nice touch as well. Not the best song I've heard these guys pull together, but it should hit the spot for those with new wave nostalgia.
