Letterman is just cozying up to the Portland music scene this week, with Sallie Ford on Wednesday and Typhoon last night. Both of them play the songs you'd want to hear them play and the bands just kill their performances. Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, "I Swear" Typhoon, "The Honest Truth" Crazy. Fresh off a showing at the Newport Folk Fest, Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside made their network TV debut last night on Letterman , pulling it off a version of Dirty Radio 's title track with their usual unassuming charm (though, okay, that may have been nerves pushing the tempo just a bit). Compliments on eyewear were exchanged, Paul Shaffer jumped in on all the solos and Ford more or less imparted what she was all about with one exclamatory "YEAH!" when Dave asked if she was Sallie. The young band did Portland proud. [...]
