Excellent excerpt from a documentary about Paradise Garage and the early days of New York underground house and disco, I highly encourage seeking the rest of it out online. It's really nice to get perspective on these scenes and understand that it wasn't only about music, but also breaking down divides of race and gender in a time when being queer or non-white still made you a "different kind of citizen". Worth a watch!

This morning I watched the film Maestro , which chronicles the career of Larry Levan, and the New York disco scene of the 70's and 80's. None of that Studio 54 shit, this was Levan killing it at the Paradise Garage, David Mancuso 's parties at the Loft, and Frankie Knuckles telling crazy stories.
