The National is playing six straight nights at the Beacon Theatre, James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem ) is DJ'ing the Brooklyn Night Bazaar, WHY? is playing a doubleheader, and, well, there's a ton more so see below. Just a head's up, this will be the last suggested NYC concerts post of the year. Have a happy holidays! [...]
It's Independence Day over on the other side of the pond, and I thought I'd mark the occasion with a wee mention of my favourite American band of the moment….or indeed of the past 15 years or so. I can't claim to have known much about The National until around six years ago when someone recommend I give a listen to the LP Alligator . I was hooked instantly. The first thing that hit home was the richness of [...]

The Ohio indie-rock band, The National , as come a long way since their 2001 debut album. They are now recognized as maybe one of the best indie-rock bands currently out in the music world. The National's newest album, High Violet , has been on many music lists top albums of 2010, and rightfully so. Coming together in 1999, The National consists of two different sets of brothers and a singer/songwriter, who is known for a [...]

Wednesday, April 14, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: Dan had to take care of something today, so his locally-themed column is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I think you'll be fine, but if you believe otherwise then I recommend getting something from these parts via the recent comp put together by Austin Sound. The National. A mortal art enemy if I've ever had one. Everyone I know finds them enthralling to no end. Me? Aside from a [...]
This installment in our Covers Project series is a two-fer. St. Vincent joined up with The National to cover Crooked Fingers ' "Sleep All Summer" for Merge Records ' 20th Anniversary compilation. Despite remaining relatively faithful, the cover still sounds world's apart from Eric Bachmann's original duet with Lara Meyerratken. Annie Clark (Miss St. Vincent) returned the favor recently when she performed a re-imagined version of The National's "Mistaken for Strangers" for Brooklyn Vegan [...]
It's official, The National has announced a follow up to Boxer . This yet to be titled album is set to be released in May, a specific date coming soon. These are some pretty vague details but hey, very significant details. They plan to promote the album with a few tour dates in March, April, and May. They are playing the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 23rd, then two shows at The National (HOW FITTING?) in Richmond, Virginia on April 22 & 23 followed by a few shows overseas then on May 22nd they are playing [...]

Putaquilamerda! Oh boy! Espero que a fonte do [...]
Just found this one from Boxer ... See more MJTV video Listen to Musical Justice

Contributing Writer Review I have done initial reviews on many of these albums, and it is interesting to notice how initial perspectives change, especially when considered on a spectrum. Anyhow heres a list of ten albums. 10. Lounge Legends, by France Gall: I know this is no where near an '07 release, but it was new to me this year, and considering the retro feel of many of my picks it doesn't seem too out of place. Had it been released this year it would probably be my #1. [...]

I normally don't post on Saturdays, but at the moment I am bored out of my mind. I've been sitting here for a couple of hours watching music videos and decided to just post a bunch of them. I stopped giving a shit about music videos a long time ago, but it's great to watch them from bands I actually enjoy. "Katrina" - Black Lips Uploaded [...]
The National has released one amazing album called "Boxer". That one would easily be one of my favorite albums of this year. While on my six week vacation, I used the ubiquitous iPod frequently and Boxer by the Nationals would have been the album I listened to the most. Album is very good on first [...]
