I saw Noel Gallagher at the Royal Oak Music Theatre yesterday and it was... bonkers. The meeting him bit certainly helped with that but... it was a damn fine show on it's own merits. I've seen Oasis quite a few times. And the highlight for me way always the acoustic bits that Noel would do on his own (playing stuff like "The Masterplan") so I couldn't have been more geeked for this show. I saw Oasis first with Travis in Detroit at the State Theatre I [...]

The ex-Oasis guitarist and band are supporting their self-titled debut (on Sour Mash/Mercury) with the brief jaunt, which includes two Coachella dates. Watch the video for latest single "AKA... What A Life!" [...]

OK, this qualifies as an insanely busy night on the show circuit: ► Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds do the first of two nights at UCLA's Royce Hall behind their big-selling debut album. That's the video for "AKA... What a Life!," above, featuring Russell Brand and (at the 4:16 mark) a Low Flying Owls T-shirt. I loved that band. ► It's a fountain of folk-rock at the Music Box, where locals Dawes and the Belle Brigade join Portland's Blitzen Trapper , touring in support of their new album [...]

Gotta admit that the debut solo album by ex- Oasis singer Noel Gallagher is one of my favorite releases of 2012. It completely caught me off guard, mainly because I wrote off Oasis years ago due to overplay on radio. Liam's Beady Eye was pretty good but it didn't grab me the way I was hoping it would so I kind of figured Noel's stuff would go in one ear and out the other. I'm an Ohio guy who complains that tours tend to skip the Buckeye state (whenever this happens, I say that artists [...]

Oh Noel G, we expected something more interesting than this. Freed from the constraints of the allegedly bullish retromania of Gallagher junior, and talking up his forthcoming psychedelic long-player with the amazingly ridiculously monikered Amorphous Androgynous (a collaboration with former members of Future Sounds of London), there was an ember of hope that Noel had put the turgid ghost of latter day Oasis to rest, and was about to enter a Paul Weller style Indian summer career-wise. Instead, he decided to go down the merely pleasant route. What a bummer. Merely pleasant is the key descriptor [...]
The name on the album spine should be a dead giveaway that despite token experimentalism, there won't be much beyond the sort of pop/rock formalism Noel Gallagher peddled as the chief songwriter for Oasis to be found here. When Britpop's leading group Oasis imploded in 2009 following one final blow-up between eternally quarreling siblings Noel and Liam Gallagher, it was somewhat surprising that bandmates Gem Archer and Andy Bell would elect to throw their lot in with the latter of the two to form Beady Eye. Of the pair, Liam is the more volatile: easy to rankle, quick to [...]

Noel Gallagher’s first solo effort debuted at #1 in Great Britain , moving 122,000 units in its first week. While a nice feather in Noel’s cap and a stick in the beady ey of his brother (who debuted at #3), it’s unlikely to rival the sales of Oasis’ catalog but this is a different time, isn’t it? Speaking of…brother Liam Gallagher has said he’d be open to a reunion to mark the 20th anniversary of the band’s chart topper What’s the Story Morning Glory. Liam told Rolling Stone , [...]
by Michael Waters A relatively upbeat selection of singles for you this week, the change of the seasons considered. As the October torrent of gigs crashes down on us in the UK, it’s easy to neglect the weekly tide of single releases lapping away. Here is a fairly arbitrary clutch of new titles; some will go unnoticed with good reason, others are tricks not to be missed. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ‘AKA... What A Life!’ Fortunately distinct in [...]
Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds has let loose the 8 minute trip of a video for his track "AKA... What A Life!". The epic looking video stars Russell Brand as an evil potion feeding villain. The video picks up from where the last video left off in which the waitress enters the kooky looking wagon. Inside, Brand awaits and gives her a life affirming spiel before force feeding her, with the help of two pretty ladies, a magical spell. Must be potent stuff as the waitress quickly subsides and passes out. The video then [...]
