Like most folks, I first encountered Donald Glover as "Troy," the jock character on NBC's groundbreaking comedy, Community . On the show, Glover plays a goofy, silly guy who's into playing in imaginariums and treating the the "real world" with genuine contempt. I had heard for awhile that Donald Glover had a side project rapping under his alter-ego, Childish Gambino , but I was never real motivated to listen to his stuff because of typecasting: I couldn't separate the serious rapper allegedly portrayed by Childish Gambino [...]

The official music video for Childish Gambino's "Heartbeat" was released early last week. The track is the second single off of his fourth studio album, Camp . Childish Gambino's upcoming Camp Gambino tour will start on March 16 in Atlanta, Georgia and end on April 19 in Oakland, California. She sits in the back as to not give the visual of them being together, more a friend thing. Here is the second video off of Childish Gambino's Camp  album which dropped late last year, the first was for his track " Bonfire ".

Childish Gambino showcased his versatility when he dropped the electro floor thumper in "Heartbeat". And now, with the official video, he is showcasing his ability to make a pretty damn visually entertaining piece of art. This video touches on more emotion than any his previous releases and, for a moment, it almost turns into a day time soap opera. But, overall, this video isn't as ambitious as the "Bonfire" video but it makes more sense and is definitely a lot sexier. Enjoy. Click here to view the embedded video.

Like many, we first learned of Donald Glover 's hip-hop skills as Childish Gambino when his new record Camp was released late last year. We were at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin and he was on the line up, but unfortunately we didn't catch his set. His record went on to sell over an astonishing 50,000 records it's first week in late November. Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino's "Heartbeat" premeired on VTT way back in November and as of today he's finally released some visuals to his monster track. Gambino is also set to kick off his "Camp Gambino Tour" in the ATL on the 16th of March. Support the kid when he rolls through

In some ways,  Childish Gambino 's "other" career as an actor has made it hard for people to get over the Troy character from Community and take Donald seriously as a rapper. But in other ways, that acting experience gives him an edge. It takes a lot of musicians some time to get used to being in front of a camera. For CG, it's not a problem. Well I guess with Community currently on hiatus Donald Glover has all the time in the world to focus on his music. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Community and Mr. Glover's comedy, but this little break can only be a good thing for Childish Gambino fans. His latest video for "Heartbeat" features CG cruising around town in a Mercedes 230E with some hot chick in the back seat while he goes to town on a bag of Cheetos.
