It's everyone's favorite time. Youtube time!
Yes In My Backyard is a semiweekly column showcasing MP3s from new and emerging local talent. Brooklyn pop savants Bishop Allen have been staying busy since the release of their second Dead Oce... This made me chuckle because, yes, I'm old enough to remember plying my horrible white-boy dance moves in front of a black-and-white television set. It's the video for Bishop Allen's "True or False" (directed by Randy Bell, choreographed by Andrea Delmonico), off the Brooklyn indie-pop ensemble's new album "Grrr..." (out on Dead Oceans). I'm pretty sure they'll be playing in living color when their tour hits L.A. tonight. ||| Live: Bishop Allen performs tonight at the Echoplex, with Throw Me the Statue opening. [...]
Bishop Allen brings its fey, Tony the Tiger indie-pop to the Echoplex tonight (in support of new album Grrr... ) alongside less fey, equally reliable Amazon.com champs Throw Me The Statue. Eat a balanced breakfast before this one, folks. Later this week : Sometimes-singer, mostly comedienne Charlyne Yi is at the UCB Theatre on Friday; the Mountain Goats and Final Fantasy (!) bring one of the fall's strongest, most well-read double bills to the Henry Fonda on Sunday. (I'll be kicking out the jams at both.)

Maybe you haven't noticed, but it's the golden age of music video all over again. Once left to the likes of big budgets, Top 40 and MTV, indie musicians are teaming with burgeoning auteurs to create a new wave of DIY audio/visual splendor. This week's edition: Ramona Falls, Grand Archives, Bishop Allen and Spiral Stairs. The second installment of our new A/V series-- extra emphasis on the V-- includes new videos featuring both the animated (one intricately, one generally) and the non-animated, the narrative-based and the less linear. All tend to work well, as we'll see, [...]

Bishop Allen is hitting up two of Brooklyn's finest venues in a few weeks time, playing an intimate show at Union Hall on November 20th and the much larger (but equally awesome) Bell House the following evening, . For the Bell House show, they will be supported by Throw Me The Statue and Darwin Deez....sounds like a pretty sweet show, right? The kind you wish you had a free pair of tickets for? You can probably tell where we're going with this: look no further, we've got you covered! Simply hit us up at the usual address [...]
If muted, at first glance this video could almost be mistaken for a flapper chick's take on the "Single Ladies" viral video craze sans Terminator glove. That is, until the immediate close-up of the indie-rock beard that belongs to a man playing the heck out of his little baritone. But as it plays out, it's more just Bishop Allen being generally adorable while leading something that vaguely resembles the watusi. The whole scene sets a nice stage for the calmly enchanting call and answer of "True Or False." It also gives a nice showcase to Darbie, who has become an [...]
Os Bishop Allen são uma delícia. Digo eu. De "Dead Oceans" há vídeo para "True or False", com um grande trabalho de realização de Randy Bell.

When I think Bishop Allen [ MySpace ], I have to admit I usually don't think dancing go-go girls, but after this video, I might. The latest video from Grrr... , "True or False", features the lead vocals of Darbie Nowatka Rice and if the black and white clip doesn't make you think of a kinder and gentler time (ironically during the Cold War), then you have either no soul or no taste of history. Also, you probably hated Rohan and Martin's Laugh-In which I find troubling. I really do like [...]
by charles poladian It was a time for ghosts, ghouls, CMJ, and sunlight. October has come and left us bitter. That night where I gained an hour was a precious gift that loving October could only bring. Unfortunately November shakes sleep from her gentle head from a year of slumber and her gift is darkness at five in the evening. But that's the breaks kid. [...]
