The BBC's annual poll of most-promising artists arrives around again with an air of inevitability and if you follow blogs and music closely, a sense of deja vu. The longlist was released today with 15 names (with 7 of them having featured here before) and is probably a fairly well-rounded new bands list. Already established artists like Marina and the Diamonds appear with more leftfield choices like Joy Orbison. I thought I'd quickly share a couple of tracks that I am enjoying at the moment. The first is a remix of rare beauty from dub-step producer Joy Orbison. He has done magical uplifting things to Four Tet's already quite special 'Love Cry'. Both of these guys will be releasing stuff in early 2010- what a minty fresh start to the year. I'm enjoying the new stuff from German microhouse producer Dominik Eulberg, such as the track below. It reminds me of Aphex Twin's fingerbib in a way - it's that crystalline sounding [...]

If there's one name that has the world of Dubstep, or any of it's associated genres for that matter, frozen in slack-jawed awe right now, it's surely Peter O'Grady, aka Joy Orbison.Off the back of only two tracks, Hyph Mngo and Wet Look, Joy Orb has cooked up a frighteningly fierce storm of excitement around his music.Just listening to his shockingly fresh and euphoric take on 2-Step and Dubstep,

Four Tet's original "Love Cry" is a pretty strong showing, but Joy Orbison's take on the track is just as strong, while giving a distinctively different flavor to the Four Tet track's jazzy, squirrely ambience. Joy Orbison manages to keep "Love Cry"s wistful feel, but his slice of downtempo techno is urban in a way that the original isn't, like the soundtrack for watching concrete and steel tear through the earth on their way to the sky. Joy Orbison's remix of Four Tet's ' Love Cry ' definitely worth the effort whoever performed the gilles peterson rip. the sound that sits snugly between all the other sounds that I like.
