Lollapalooza is back with a line-up that's full of up-and-coming local acts, legitimate buzz bands, arena rockers and a few head scratchers. So, we here at Loud Loop figured you might need some help deciding which bands to check out and which to avoid. And of course you know the headliners, so we won't waste your time on those. Instead, these are our picks for can't-miss acts those other eight hours this Friday, Saturday and Sunday... FRIDAY, AUGUST 5 [...]

“Captain, we have flux moderator ready.” “The time is near. Engineering, are you prepared.” “Yes.” “Dimensional Shift inducer armed?” “Yes.” “Einstein-ian Physics bypass?” “Engaged.” “Then prepare for warp-phase shift. Time-dimensional overlap on . . . one . . . two . . . three. Now, move like this.” Ok, a little overdone, for sure, but it must take some sort of disruption of Einstein’s physics and understanding of time and space to understand how – 24 years after recording their last album and 11 years since losing the essential Benjamin Orr— The Cars managed to [...]

The smartest thing The Cars did was wait a few years after Fountains of Wayne's had a hit with "Stacey's Mom", skip past the sound of their debut and go straight to Candy-O style synth pop on their new album. To celebrate, here's a Ric Ocasek tune from that era that became a Top 40 hit for former Stories lead singer Ian Lloyd. You can hear The Cars provided backing vocals. It's called "Slip Away" [...]

Earlier this week, rock legends The Cars broke their twenty-four year silence with their new album Move Like This via Hear Music/Concord Music Group , produced by Garret "Jacknife" Lee (U2, REM, The Hives, Weezer). The album is streaming in its entirety on Soundcloud till Tuesday. Happy Friday. Bonus: official videos for two of the songs, "Blue Tip" and "Sad Song." [...]
"Blue Tip" is tensile and itchy then soaring and romantic - the closest this new record, the Cars' first in 24 years, gets to approximating its own career-making mixture of Ric Ocasek's weirdo aloofness and Benjamin Orr's sun-drenched pop warmth. Orr, of course, passed in 2000 after a bout with cancer, and his absence is sometimes deeply felt. It was,
The Cars have that singular sound that screams 802s and at the same time is timeless. Ric Ocasek's distinct vocals and just solid rock craftsmanship have produced countless hits. C'mon, "Just What I Needed," "Drive," "You Might Think," "Good Times Roll," are immediately infectious. Not just ironic karaoke fodder, The Cars and their blend of [...]

After resisting the idea for many years while " The New Cars " played without him (and with Todd Rundgren in his place), Ric Ocasek has joined back up with his band The Cars , cementing the remainder of the original lineup (except for bassist Benjamin Orr for died of pancreatic cancer in 2000)... "The project's genesis came in the fall of 2009 as Ocasek considered how to proceed with his latest batch of songs. He realized that his best option was the three players with whom he had the most symbiotic relationship. [...]
I think I was too young to see The Cars touring during their heyday so this is definitely something I'd love to check out (BOO ... no Ohio dates ... yet). In support of their brand new studio album, Move Like This , coming out on May 10, The Cars will hit the road in May to test the touring waters. If this thing doesn't sell out every date, I'll be shocked. Tour dates: 5/10 in Seattle, WA @ Showbox @SODO [...]

Here's the official music video for "Sad Song," the new single from The Cars from their forthcoming release, "Move Like This," due out May 10th. Filed under "Unlikely" in the drawer full of possible '80s band reunions were the Cars. The Boston New Wave / pop act last released a studio album in 1987, and that effort, Door to Door, was poorly received. Singer Ric Ocasek never seemed too up on the idea, and made a name for himself producing acolytes like Weezer. Singer/bassist Benjamin Orr, who fronted hits like "Just What I Needed" and "Drive", died of cancer in...
And it's pretty good. The first few seconds make me think of LCD Soundsystem.
The Cars are back with a new music video for their single, "Blue Tip", off of their first new album in 24 years, Move Like This. At this time, we don't have any Los Angeles tour dates to announce in...

For those of us who grew up listening to The Cars , there's something comforting about hearing Ric Ocasek's voice and that vintage Cars sound here in the year 2011. After all, the last time they released an album of new music was 1987. Just a few things have changed in the time between. But reunited they have - all original members (minus bassist and occasional lead vocalist Benjamin Orr, who passed away in 2000 after a battle with pancreatic cancer). Their new album, titled Move Like This , will be released on May 10th, and [...]
In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Ric Ocasek refers to The Cars second go-around together as a conjunction, not a reunion; telling the music mag that a little over a year ago he found himself a batch of new songs that he thought would be best suited to be recorded by the seminal New Wave band . A smidge over two decades after going on "hiatus," the surviving members of the band, who have been teasing fans with their decision to regroup via Facebook , headed into the studio to lay down tracks for the [...]
