The XL Recordings offshoot Young Turks has been a mainstay in the UK (funnily enough, they're not Turkish) music biz for almost a decade, consistently putting out seminal releases and championing the careers of contemporary icons across a spray of genres. Young Turks was born as an imprint in 2006, masterminded by a then teenage Caius Pawson, in 2006. Pawson and a couple of friends started in the industry promoting gigs and club nights across various London hotspots - the whole endeavour snowballed until one fateful night at the abandoned [...]

Hoy, The xx logró abarrotar el Auditorio [...]

In addition to collaborations with Neon Indian, Nicole Atkins, and Bear in Heaven, the EP also includes a cover of The xx's "VCR", which we now have our first listen of below (via P4k ). To add some perspective, we've also provided The xx's original take right underneath. The Antlers - "VCR" (the xx cover) [...]

The last time out, we had a rip-off that tread into a bit of a gray area thanks to a key change, but this recent Nokia ad is way more of an open-and-shut case. This is totally the same song. "VCR" by the the xx. I hope they have the best lawyers in indie rock. Read More...
Most Indian commercials directed towards young, upwardly mobile, urban kids (SEC AB, 15-24, look mom, that MBA) these days have pretty much the same vanilla, Nikhil D'Souza , acoustic-twee soundscape. Vodafone and its seemingly bottomless talent pool of breathy singers have forever transformed jingles to almost-song-y indie pop clips. The result is that almost every commercial that features young people doing happy, summer-y, green things is now soundtracked by an acoustic track inspired by whiney singer-songwriters like Damien Rice and Jose Gonzalez. This Nokia commercial, pimping an instant messaging [...]

Lollapalooza is back and bigger than ever with an eclectic set of headliners that ranges from the post-Madonna, dancehall pop of Lady Gaga to reunited Seattle grungers Soundgarden to the unbridled anthems of indie rock saviors Arcade Fire . But of course, you probably are familiar with those groups. So, we decided on keying you in on some of our favorites who play the other eight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get ready, Chicago. Here's your Loud Loop Press Lollapalooza 2010 preview... [...]
A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty bored with some of the music around at the moment, so sent out an appeal to some friends (including JAL) to recommend me some albums. Following a mini-shopping spree on Amazon, I thought I'd share three of the best with you: XX- The XX What's that about not judging a book by the cover? When I heard the band's name and saw the black cover, I presumed some kind of My Chemical Romance spawn, but couldn't [...]
If you follow us closely you will notice that I have been an xx fan for a while now and finally get to post one of their solo songs up here. At first they didn't impress me with stripped down songs but after several listens their self-titled debut grew on me to the point where [...]

After missing them a few times last year, in a couple weeks I finally get a chance to see The XX live as they hit the Commodore Ballroom on April 13. I've heard (mostly) great things about the band's live show and I'm interested to see how they bring their songs to life on stage. The debut album is still getting a lot of regular plays around here. Check out their latest single VCR below. Download The XX - VCR The XX - VCR [...]
Thank you Saint Patrick, patron saint of wicked hangovers! We have been sitting around all day doing nothing. So enjoy a few of the videos we stumbled across. First up we have Hot Chip's new video for "I Feel Better". It's really a winner. Next up we have the video for the Erykah Badu and Lil Wayne collaboration "Jump in the Air (Stay There)". It's quite trippy, so if you're still nauseous, be careful. [...]

Story by Adam Daniels Photo by Aliya Naumoff The xx do not work on paper. You try selling four pasty British kids dressed in all black as the new faces of smooth R&B. In fact, singer Oliver Sim was once within earshot of someone forced with the challenge of describing his group to a colleague. This is what he overheard. "I don't really know how to describe them," the stranger said. "Have you ever seen South Park? You know the goth kids in that? Kind of like that but with an R&B twist." [...]
