People in The Sky, a label started in the back of an East London rcord shop in 2006, release the compilation "And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Avant Pop" on the 16th of Nov. Featuring label mainstays Friendly Fires and Plugs, People In The Sky describe this as an 'Audio Manifesto'. It was their brilliantly catchy song, "Chrome's On" It that introduced me to Brooklyn's duo, Telepathe. Although the rest of Dance Mother , Telepathe's debut is not nearly as catchy or dancey, it is still a fantastic avant-garde electro-pop record! Dance Mother reminds me a little of Tegan and Sara (at least in terms of vocal style)... maybe because of the whole female duo thing. On the other hand, the experimentation of tribal-like rhythms, ambient beats, and bold synth melodies are very Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, and The Blow sounding. "Chrome's On It" is the second video from "Dance Mother" the debut LP of Brooklyn duo Telepathe. In the vein of fellow Brooklynites Gang Gang Dance, Telepathe expertly blend tribal ritualism with electronic textures to create a hypnotic brand of avant-pop that is weird enough to warrant repeat listens and accessible enough to get bodies in motion. Second single "Chrome's On It" is no exception with an intro that sounds like the dreamy descent into a K-Hole before clearing to two-part harmonies, pitch shifted synths and chanted mantras, signs and symbols.
