First up, in the spirit of Hot Chip's awesome new video, we have a throwback to their excellent Made in the Dark with an L.A. Riots vs. Villains remix of "Ready for the Floor". Ready for the Floor (LA Riots vs Villains Remix) - Hot Chip This next one is a remix I've listened to a lot lately, it's super catchy and adds in female vocals to Miike Snow's Burial. [...]

It's been a three years since the Zach Braff-approved, indie-darlings The Shins put out their third full-length album Wincing the Night Away . Since its release and support tour, the Portland via New Mexico-based act have switched labels from Sub Pop to lead singer's James Mercer's Aural Apothecary, shuffled their lineup and now appear to be on a bit of hiatus. With his new found free time Mercer found himself with the opportunity to collaborate with the "It" producer of the last decade, Brian Burton, who you may know better as Danger Mouse [...]

Broken Bells is a collaboration between Shins lead singer James Mercer and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley fame as well being a well known/sought after producer. He produced Gorillaz Demon Days record as well as last years not yet officially released Dark Night of the Soul . The album is self tilted and was released March 9th . Seems this collaboration is not just gonna be a one off but more of a long term thing, which is nice as they will have time to [...]

This year is proving to be as a good as last year with several great releases from new acts and old faves. Among my favorite albums of the year are Spoon's Transference , Charlotte Gainsbourg's IRM , The Danger Mouse/James Mercer collaboration Broken Bells , Tunng's ...And Then We Saw Land , and Vampire Weekend's Contra . I've selected videos for my favorite song from each album below. Enjoy! Spoon - The Mystery Zone [...]

Mr. Jimmy Fallon is keeping up Conan's tradition of booking great musical guests (I actually don't think his show is all that bad either). Last night Broken Bells , the collaborate project featuring James Mercer of The Shins and producer Danger Mouse , played "The Ghost Inside" from their self-titled debut (out now via Sony ). I've been enjoying Broken Bells as of late and the [...]
the high road :: broken bells (a.k.a. danger mouse & james mercer)

We don't know about you, but everywhere we turn folks are freaking out about the Broken Bells release next week. Broken Bells (in case you've been hiding) brings together the dynamic creativity of Danger Mouse and James Mercer from The Shins . The Record Store Day folks are featuring a nice little video on the actual opening of the special edition "music box" package which contains a glow in the dark sticker set, a 44-page pocket notebook of photos and illustrations, a [...]

Broken Bells Broken Bells (Sony) Releasing: 9 March Broken Bells brings together two of today's brightest and most innovative musicians: Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse), best known for his work as one half of Gnarls Barkley and James Mercer, principle songwriter for indie-pop darlings the Shins. According to NPR, the duo met six years ago and finally found time to record together this past year. Despite clocking in at only 37 minutes, Broken Bells' self-titled...

Broken Bells is a collaboration between James Mercer of The Shins and Brian Burton, otherwise known as producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse. For this project Mercer handles vocals, guitars and bass while Burton plays organ, drums, piano, synths and bass. The pair play all of the instruments on the self-titled Broken Bells album, which will be released by Columbia Records on March 9. There's a smorgasbord of pre-order options at the link . Here are a few words from their first-ever live performance a few nights ago at the Bootleg Theater in Echo Park: [...]
Broken Bells -the sideproject of DJ Danger Mouse and MC Shiny McShinerston (um, James Mercer)-have recently released this video for the Eels-sounding single, "The High Road." In the clip, the duo travel a lonesome stretch of road at night (Could this be The High Road?) armed with only a pair of flashlights. They encounter all sorts of characters on their journey, but what the video fails to show us is the thrilling silhouette hand puppet show Mercer puts on with his flashlight at the end. That guy, always with his silhouette puppets. I swear. [...]
Looks like another solid collaboration for Danger Mouse, this time teaming up with The Shins' frontman James Mercer to form Broken Bells. Their self-titled album hits stores in March, but in the meantime, enjoy this new video directed by Sophie Muller. » Pre-order it on Amazon
