Cadence Weapon is from Edmonton but currently resides in Toronto. He has had the privilege of work awesome Electro artists as a rapper. MSTRKRFT's new album attempts to bridge this gap, by Cadence Weapon already beat them to it. You have likely heard these tracks previously, however, I really wanted to show love to this local artist whose work is absolutely awesome.Check out his pay what you can set up for the ablum Seperation Anxiety , great idea if you ask me. Working with Herve is huge, not to mention remixing Kid Sister. For those of you [...]

Rollie Pemberton (aka Cadence Weapon ) is an amazing hip hop producer/emcee from Edmonton. He infuses his killer beats with pretty much every other style of music he likes - mainly electro, house, and techno. His lyrics and rhyming patterns are refreshingly influenced more by the UK grime scene then they are American hip hop and at age 22, he's also a retired Pitchfork writer. That's a lot of "cool" for one guy from Edmonton. Maybe that's why he's blowing up so fast? His Dad was a pioneering hip hop DJ in Edmonton, so I [...]
21 year olf Canadian Roland Pemberton is one of those guys who seems a heap older than he actually is. He raps as Cadence Weapon and today, Big Dada are releasing his debut LP 'Breaking Kayfabe.' His style is direct but manages to remain effortlessly playful, and there is nothing too aggressive about his rhymes either which I really like. A while ago there was a whole heap of
Pitchfork has teamed up with eMusic to promote its festival in Chicago, July 13-15 this year. We went last year and had a ton of fun (Spank Rock's set was amazing). Not sure if we're going this year. The bank is being drained by trips to Michigan (this weekend for a wedding) and New York (in September for a wedding). Though the thought of GZA performing the whole of Liquid Swords is almost enough to take on a little debt, eh? In any event, eMusic is offering a 16-song [...]
Good Hodgkins went through the trouble of converting the amazing Cadence Weapon / Final Fantasy CBC Radio session into mp3 format for us, and for this, we thank him. This version of "Sharks" is ridiculous: gone is the dark 8-bit beat from the original; instead, Cadence Weapon drops his menacing flow over Owen Pallett 's warm (gentle, even) violin parts, which include samples of Andrew Bird 's "Imitosis" and "A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head." mp3: Cadence Weapon Sharks (feat. Final Fantasy) [...]
Got this one from Fat Planet (thx Stu). The song is from a new compilation by Nomadic Wax records called African Underground: The Depths of Dakar . My favorite hip hop songs right now. Heavy! Heard this last Saturday on the legendary Masters at Work show on CKUT [...]

Cadence Weapon, "Sharks" Cadence Weapon -- MC , P4K reviewer , remixologist , mp3 blogger , big Bad Religion fan -- signed to Epitaph last week : will he become the Spank Rock of Canada? His Breaking Kayfabe is out in the US (finally) on March 13, to coincide with SXSW buzz-building. That rap-act-with-punk-aesthetic thing? Rollie: "I think I got that." Related links: Here's Rollie talking to the CBC . Message board threads: PunkNews , Hollerboard . [...]
Canada's Cadence Weapon, featuring former PitchforkMedia writer Rollie Pemberton, has signed on with Epitaph "for releasing my records in the states. Cadence Weapon @ Fontana's, NYC (BV CMJ show) - Nov 3, 2006 ( CRED ) Chart Attack reports Edmonton rapper/producer Cadence Weapon has signed a U.S. deal with Epitaph Records, which is obviously moving further away from its punk roots. The young artist will see his Breaking Kayfabe debut released south of the border ( the U.S. ) on March 13 to coincide with his appearance that week at the South By Southwest Music Festival [...]
