Don't you just love when this happens? Back in, like, the dinosaur times (2008), Okkervil River released The Stand-Ins , and as a companion piece of sorts, had other bands cover the album's songs. So they got Zykos for "On Tour with Zykos" and Ola Podrida for "Calling and Not Calling my Ex," among others. Will Sheff even got in on the covering action (which is weird, because it's his song, but whatever), performing "Lost Coastlines" as a duet with A.C. Newman. All those videos can be found on YouTube but THAT'S NOT WHY WE'RE HERE NOW IS IT. [...]

The weekend was busy/cold/rad. The recession continues on and I continue to be embarrassingly broke but hey, at least we all still have MUSIC. Right kids? Sigh. I got off the plane back from Portland on Friday night (it was lovely, thank you for asking) and went to see Josh Radin open for Dar Williams @ Webster Hall, our Hotel Cafe girl Ingrid Michaelson joined him for his song "Sky" and our favourite song was "One Of Those Days". A lengthier review to follow my fingertips are aching from the cold.. Then on Monday we went [...]

On a [...]
National Stadium, December third. As per Jim . While I'm on the subject of Herr Vernon ... Okkervil River have a new album out soon called The Stand In's (a little bit of a let down to be honest) and in the run up to it they've put up on YouTube a series of videos of various people (A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers probably being the most prominent figure) covering songs from the album. The lot of them (and I think more are due to be added) are here , including [...]

Okkervil River landed on a lot of year end lists last years with The Stage Names . Today, Will Sheff and crew release The Stand Ins , a record mean to append the The Stage Names . It is Sheff again at the top of his game as a singer-songwriter and another beautiul offering by one of today's best bands. Autor kandydatki do tytułu płyty roku LTB na zdjęciach Mattii Zoppellaro (MOJO). Fajne, nie? Więcej tutaj . I jeszcze ten właśnie miły pan - Justin Vernon - coverujący utwór Blue Tulip z nowego (świetnego!) albumu Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins : Niedługo notka (lub audycja) z recenzjami. Do przeczytania/usłyszenia!

At first I was thinking: "that guy flipping idly through a magazine is kind of killing the moment - he obviously has too much Bon Iver in his life"...but when the camera eventually pans out, it's his touring bandmates...who join in nicely.
Remember when I said that Okkervil River's youtube channel sure did have some exciting stuff in store for us? Well, it looks as if I was right with that little prediction because they recently uploaded Bon Iver beautifying the already beautiful Blue Tulip : One of my favorite new discoveries (That'd be you, Mister Justin Vernon of Bon Iver) covering one of my favorite bands of all time... Well, it was an exciting morning in The Hot Half Life household, especially since I'd already been in a [...]
Okkervil River have started their own Youtube channel where fans can and artists can submit their own cover versions of Okkervil River songs. So far they have artists such as Bon Iver and David Vandervelde pitching in. Here are a couple videos:
Two covers first one is Radiohead covering Neil Young 's " Tell Me Why " The second is Bon Iver performing the fourth track " Blue Tulip " from the new Okkervil River album The Stand Ins .
As reported by Stereogum: I came across this gem in a late night web scan while dodging the debauchery that has become Tuesday nights in most cities. Here Justin Vernon sits alone, seeming relaxed and collected covering "Blue Tulip" off Okkervill River's to-be-released album The Stand Ins. Peaceful tranquility embeded in an embeded YouTube video. I predict a few guest appearances at shows by memebers of both bands.
So it looks like they ARE releasing covers of all 10 songs on Okkervil River's new CD, The Stand Ins. Very cool. Here's Bon Iver covering "Blue Tulips":
Justin & Co's beautiful spin on a song from Okkervil River's Cizzle-endorsed new album The Stand-Ins . The finger picked/harmonied outro is gorgeous.
In the ongoing series of great singers covering tunes from the new Okkervil River album, we now have a beauty. Bon Iver sings "Blue Tulip", one of my favourite tracks from the upcoming "The Stand Ins", which is released September 9 on Jagjaguwar . Superb.
Bon Iver — Blue Tulips (Okkervil River cover)
Another one from The Stand Ins Sessions. Chapter Four brings us Justin Vernon, wearing a shirt with sleeves for the first time all summer, applying the upper reaches of his internet-famous falsetto to Okkervil River's "Blue Tulip." Like the others we've posted ( Carl Newman's "Lost Coastlines" with Will Sheff, and David Vandervelde's "Singer Songwriter," if you're keeping score), it comes sans band. As For Emma fans can attest, though, Bon Iver is particularly well suited to coming sans band. (However he is joined on some late accompanying vocals by roadmates Mike [...]
Enjoy his take on 'Blue Tulip' below. Download a Bon Iver track at bottom of post. MP3: Bon Iver - Skinny Love
The third installment of Okkervil River's The Stand Ins series has just premiered, and it finds Justin Vernon aka Bon Iver taking on "Blue Tulip." Vernon does an acoustic take, ...
