This isn't the first time we've featured an Edward Sharpe song from the band's album, Up From Below . This time, we have '40 Day Dream,' a song that summons the tenderness of Journey 's 'Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'.' In our last post about the band, reader " Sean " mentioned that Edward Sharpe put on a great live show, so what better way to demonstrate '40 Day Dream' than to feature one the band's live performances? In fact, this live performance contains the same dynamism as [...]
ALEXIS GIDEON (Disjecta, 8371 N Interstate) Read our article on Alexis Gideon . PAVEMENT, QUASI (Edgefield, 2126 SW Halsey, Troutdale) Ever since news of the Pavement reunion broke, we've been drooling for a Portland show: It's Stephen Malkmus' hometown, and the reunion rehearsals took place in SE Portland's AudioCinema. Well, the day of a local Pavement show has finally arrived, [...]
Earlier this week, Seattle alt-weekly the Stranger posted a YouTube video demonstrating the overwhelming similarities between Kesha's "Tik Tok" and Katy Perry's "California Gurls." (Miley C... Continue reading "Five modern copycat songs: A list inspired by Katy Perry, Kesha and Lady Gaga" >

Up From Below (Community /Fairfax, June 2010) Posted by AGM If you take it from him, Edward Sharpe descended to earth to travel the world and "heal and save mankind." With brown hair tangled into a crown floating over his thin, shirtless frame and a traveling choir of apostles always in tow, he surely evokes images of a certain savior. But the man [...]

I recently learned that LA is breeding artists other than DJs. I know its hard to believe, but its true...LA has soul, LA can rock, and LA is home to some fine fuckin¹ FOLKS too. EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS are proof of this amazing and reassuring truth. 10 instruments - 1 in every band-members hand, and the balls to call their music straight Folk (yes, they are a 10-piece folk band), make these modern-hippies one of the most unique groups currently on the rise. Mix the pain of rejection with the raw emotion that comes from it, and [...]

Toronto - Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros played a sold show on Tuesday at the El Mocambo. Prior to Monday afternoon, I didn't know who they were. Then I got an invite to go. At first, I was like, who the hell are these guys and why is this show sold out ? So I asked Nick, my Edmonton music friend: me: have u heard of edward sharpe Nick: sounds like some twilight character? That was of no help. So I checked out the [...]
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros (Liz thinks I should be using is here, and I suspect she's right, but it just doesn't sound as good) are my new favourite band. I've been spending any free time I've had the last couple of days watching Youtube of them perform a pile of different songs ... it's pretty awesome stuff. Stuff that I think a lot, maybe all of you are going to enjoy. I'm not sure this is the kind of group that I'd want to hang out with on a [...]

Born about five decades too late Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are a serious breath of fresh air in today's music world. Part 1960's psychedelic hippie rock, part southern folk rock and 100% awesome. They truly capture a genre that has long been lost. The 10 member band, that seems like more of a traveling hippie commune than a conventional rock band, is on tour promoting their latest album Up From Below released mid summer and I hear they put on one hell of a show. With their [...]

The day is finally here! Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros play Club Garibaldi in Milwaukee tonight. Did you catch them on David Letterman last night? There will be tickets at the door ($10), but get there early as they will go quickly . Plus, you will not want to miss the opener, Jeremiah Nelson . Until then, check out the video above of " 40 Day Dream " from The Regent Theatre in LA. Yep, that's a Saturday night! [...]
Fantastic live footage from a recent performance at The Regent Theatre in LA, edited together by the bands own frontman Alex Ebert. Post from: The Galley Boys Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - 40 Day Dream (Live)
As long as we're talking about lanky frontmen who sing like preachers, let me drop some English about my new favorite band, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes. Pretty much all I need to tell you is that they're a twelve-person band with a Jesus-Freaks-in-the-desert thing goin' on, and you'll understand how I fell so hard so fast. I'd give them the Gentle Hippies tag, but they're not entirely gentle. On tour now, hitting SF on September 15 ( The Independent , $10, what are you waiting for?) and October [...]
I just got back from seeing Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros at lovely new London venue The Lexington in Angel. They were nothing short of extraordinary! Cougar Microbes is blitzing all their London performances so we'll catch three gigs in two days. Their album 'Up From Below' is verging on my album of the [...]
So...I was going through all the emails I've had to hold off on, and lo and behold I got an email Jeremy at Vagrant, with a video of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros performing @ The Regent. It is fab and shows how awesome they are. So, check it out and now I for real promise to get through my emails in a more timely manner so I don't almost miss out on gems like this.

Well, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Up From Below has passed my desk back in June, and let me tell you, it's only gathering more and more force as it rolls along! I received three tracks back then and as much as they intrigued me the rest of the album has proved to be chock full of talent with a range of sound that can only be described as impressive. Hearkening back to grand, popular-music theatrical productions of the sixties and seventies, Up From Below , brings us a large cast of ten musicians [...]

Today I began the slow and tedious process of sifting through the debris of my woefully neglected inbox. There's a lot of crap in there to be honest, but every now and then I do come across something that does catch my interest. I'd never heard of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros before today, but this video below of a recent performance of '40 Day Dream' makes me think that they'd be a damn fun band to see live. Though the stage is packed full of people and instruments they still manage to get a [...]
