An album as outstanding as Teen Dream deserves an encore. Thankfully, the brief yet lovely Zebra EP provides one. What Baltimore dream-pop duo Beach House may lack in variety is more than compensated for with atmosphere -- dreamlike, textured, and seeped in luscious reverb. I normally just update the concert calendar without mentioning it in a post, but I thought this merited a mention given their excellent new album, the growing hype behind it, and--much as I honestly love snow--the urgency with which I pine for summertime to arrive. I'll freely admit the following remix for Beach House 's "Zebra" by Ring Trick isn't the best remix on the planet -- but it's an excuse to post on Beach House, and some of you will find it entertaining enough. You can tell these aren't official remix stems -- that is, the dude's source is the original song itself -- so the remix is muddied and reverbed in that 'gotta mask the mess and blur the seams' sorta way. Not sure it would have fit well on Teen Dream, but "The Arrangement" is a stunner/one more reason you should be on your way to your local record store come April 17th. With Teen Dream Beach House have vaulted themselves onto the upper rung of 2010 LP chatter, so it's rather fitting to see them throw some fresh wares into the mix of Record Store Day 's annual indie-store-exclusives. Their four-track Zebra EP promises alternate versions of two Dreams (both "Zebra" and the Cough Syrup Remix of "10 Mile Stereo") and two unreleased tracks. While performing at Sirius XM in support of their superb Teen Dream , Beach House busted out a new one for satellite subscribers' ears: "The Arrangement," which will be a b-side on their upcoming Zebra EP (which is due out on April 17 for Record Store Day). Audio of said performance of said song is above for your Monday listening pleasure. It's definitely b-side material, but it has a strong thematic and sonic connection to Teen Dream proper. [ P4K ]
