Why I haven't taken the time out to write a full-length piece about Das Racist over the past two years is kind of beyond me. I'm not even sure what to chalk it up to. All I know is that when I first saw the clip for "Rainbow in the Dark", I was blown away. The self-implicating jokes on hipsterdom, the hip-hop-historical allusions, the barrage of left-field pop culture references. Not to mention Kool AD chillin on top of a speaker, popping champagne in the nude. Watching any of their visuals, it became clear that they were bringing something different [...]

Observing the development of hip hop is a fascinating preoccupation. Tonight, one of the more interesting groups to emerge in the last few years plays at the downtown club. Das Racist first popped onto my radar with their fad hit, "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell," which came out in 2008. But their style links them back to the beginnings of the genre with a special connection to another group that was first considered a joke by purists— the Beastie Boys . [...]

Das Racist is a rap group based in Brooklyn, comprised of two rappers, Himanshu Suri, Kool A.D., and their hype man, Dap. Trying to talk to them is difficult, because they are usually talking to each other in pop culture references stacked upon sarcasm and inside jokes. In this way, their normal conversation is very much like their music. Das Racist blur the lines between absurd comedy and culture-index genius. The attention received by their song "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" has given them opportunities to travel, and hours after they landed in Chicago for the [...]

the best rapper is b real. jokes, it's us. come on, be real. ♫ Das Racist - Rainbow in the Dark "Interesting" is one of those words that is usually used to describe music that is not worthy of any higher praise but in the case of Das Racist that isn't the case... and sometimes it is. I always preferred the Wallpaper remix over the original of last year's blog-storming "Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell" but now these Brooklyn dudes are back with their first official release, the Shut [...]
