Boston octet The Young Republic aren't going to win any awards for snappy song titles--their songs come as they are, with little floweriness. But there's something attractive in their straightforward Americana and Gram-Parsons-like stylings--which may have something to do with the coterie of eight musicians who make up the band. Strings are everywhere and anywhere, just ahead of the brass and wind, it seems, but always right on.
