Girl About Town recently took on the somewhat ridiculous task of narrowing down all of the songs in 2007 to our top five. It wasn't easy, but we gave it our best shot! So without further ado, here are the best songs you have heard, or should have heard, in 2007: Anne's Top 5: 1. Spoon - "Ghost of You Lingers" ( Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga ) [...]
"As lesbians who never reference their oppression or even their sexuality, Tegan and Sara don't have men to lash out at, put up with or gripe about. This may be why their uncommonly detailed love songs are so short on drama..." Robert Christgau from the Rolling Stone clearly doesn't know many lesbians. Lesbians? Drama? Like opposing magnets, I tell you. The Con
The Great Lake Swimmers - Your Rocky Spine one of my favorite songs of 2007 Tegan and Sara - The Con [...]
Sitting upright in my bedroom headquarters, I wondered where will I find something to bring me joy and a good emotion? Not moments later did I come across the latest video release from my absolute favourite twins (until yours arrive) Tegan & Sara . Their most current album, The Con, is just the best album I have heard in a long long time. Even though the songs from the album are wonderful on their own, I think the best way to appreciate what Tegan & Sara have created is by listening to the [...]
Back when Clark posted here (one write-up, that is), he hit up a Tegan and Sara private gig at Long Beach record store Fingerprints . Though it took me awhile before I listened to his suggestions and spun the record, when I finally did I liked it. A lot. The Con sports more electronic additions than did their previous work, and it's quite a fantastic change. And now the Warner Brothers starlets have a new video out for the title track from the fantastic album. Everything starts with one [...]
The first artist to warrant a specially tricked-out Zune is ... reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel, a Puerto Rican act who appeared on R. Kelly's "Burn It Up" and who were the first act to place four singles in the top 10 of the Billboard Latin chart; the device will be sold at Wal-Marts beginning next week, and people who pick it up will be able to have the duo's forthcoming album a week before street date. This space has given the no-longer-brown turd a hard time in the past, but this is actually a pretty [...]
New vid for the title track from the twins' latest. Great song, but the video doesn't make a lot sense...
The Canadian sister-act Tegan and Sara , have recently released their 2nd single in the form of their fifth album title track 'Con'. The video starts off with one of the twins lying on a psychiatrist's couch, while the good doctor is trying to help her, by remembering certain events. At one point the whole thing starts to backfire and the shrink collapses unconscious, after which the one of the twins (can't really tell which is which) reunites with her mental troubled brethren. Scenes with a stuck elevator, drowning sister and troubled sleep unfold in fast succession, causing [...]
Download: Tegan and Sara - "The Con" Maybe Tegan and Sara shouldn't make videos. I love them to death, but their videos are pretty uneventful. (Ian Anderson)
We get to eavesdrop on one of the Tegan/Sara sisters visiting the psychiatrist in the new video for "The Con." This has to violate some sort of client/patient privilege thing....do most people sing out their problems?
Damn psychoanalysts. It's bad enough the exorbitant amount of money they charge for their precious time. What's worse is when they fall asleep, or even pass out on the floor, right in the middle of a session. Because then they don't get around to answering your big existential questions. Like, "Why do my twin sister and I make such creepy videos? And how is she suddenly at the window? And why does she insist on running away from this scene like we killed that guy or something? And when, oh when, will we discover the miracle product that is shampoo?"
Tegan and Sara's The Con is one of those albums from this year that I keep going back to; their transformation to new-wavey power duo has caused their songwriting to get stronger, and their hooks to get glued to the outer reaches of my brain more and more by the day. (If you can listen to "Back In Your Head" and not have its simple piano line Velcroed to your consciousness, you either never got "Chopsticks" stuck in your head or you're suffering from an earwax issue.) The plot for the title track's video [...]

Sara showed up sans Tegan for Drive XV , but in the Vancouver-based video for The Con 's criminally catchy title track, the sisters Quin are reunited and running away from things again. (Check out Sara's "I'm sick and tired of my love" t-shirt.) Less creepy than " Back In Your Head "'s gaggle of head-bobbing hoodies , but dealing with a soporific psychiatrist and delving into your memories and fears can also be pretty freaky, especially when dude collapses at your feet. No worries, though, [...]

Ugh, I hate how gay I am for Tegan and Sara. Seriously, it's embarrassing.
