"No? What? No?! Come on! COME ON! Don't you know who I am?" - Tom, yelling at an uncooperative Fredericks soundboard "It's like, well, if we land on water ... s' uh !" - Sean in Rampbridge, explaining why he typically ignores the in-flight safety speech "I think I saw him mouth the word 'munch'." -- Sean, catching Flight 1549 Cpt. Christopher Wallace is the center of the hip-hop canon. Any words rhymed after the late rapper's two major works, Ready to Die and Life After Death, necessarily bare his indelible imprint. And to this... Continue reading "Movie Review: Notorious" >

(this was done on purpose) Coinciding with the release of Notorious we have the release of a hot new track sent to us by Cold Blank. They remixed Hypnotized by sampling Biggie's voice for the majority of the track and letting it break down into the original part way through only to buildback up into a 4/4 kick and tons pulsating synths. A roaring house take on a classic party tune it is sure to set the clubs on FIRE. DNGRCAT is a cat out of southern Ontario who has been spinning around the university scenes in London [...]
I don't care what anyone says, I'm still seeing this movie... I wouldn't have thought there was an original thing left to say about Biggie, but Jody Rosen's portrait of the artist as an aspiring Upp... Continue reading "Biggie Smalls, the Woody Allen of Rap" >
Friday, January 16, 2009 Here's the set-up: I like movies. Hopefully, you like movies as well. What I don't like are crappy movies that some tempt and seduce us, the helpless movie goer, in to spending gratuitous amounts of our hard-earned money on them. Thus, I'm here every week in the dark corners of Side One: Track One to help guide your through just what's going on this weekend in film. What you should see, what you should avoid like the plague, what you should seek out like the Holy Grail. [...]

The assets of Death Row Records, said to include master recordings of Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, were auctioned off today (Jan. 15) for $18 million to WIDEawake Entertainment Group, a development company out of Canada. Because of the less-than-expected acquisition price, the only creditor likely to capture a return after lawyers and other Chapter 11 administrative fees are paid is the Internal Revenue Service. That means other creditors, including unsecured ones like co-founder Lydia Harris, will be left out in the cold. Harris isn't content with the verdict. "This was all [...]
In honor of tomorrow's opening of the Biggie biopic "Notorious," here are 2 more of Dave Wrangler's B.I.G. remixes. I'd also like to let you in on SubEx's plans of seeing the movie tomorrow night in an undisclosed theater possibly in the Oak Cliff or Duncanville areas. If we are able to obtain new batteries for the video camera we'll document the event, if not stay tuned for the full write-up of our Notorious exploits on Monday. On behalf of the internetz, allow me to welcome you to 2009 - only one year away from The Future! I know we are all disappointed that we don't have hover bikes, hover cars or reliable (hover-based) public transport yet BUT it's not all doom and gloom and there are plenty of exciting things that are going to happen in twenty oh nine. The 2009 Sydney Festival This is the reason that the world birthed Sydney in the first place. It's a joyous, special time. The weather is nice and there are plenty of [...]
Notorious Expect a lot of Biggie remixes in the coming weeks with the release of the new Poppa biopic, Notorious. After watching the trailer, I can only expect Angela Basset to to turn in another Oscar worthy performance as the ball busting mother and the only thing that has me wondering if the movie will stay accurate. The Notorious B.I.G. -Dead Wrong (Dave Wrangler Remix) [mp3] The

Wow, its wild how this is a part of history. Long lost freestyle demo tape from non other than "B.I.G". Premiered last night on Mr. Cee's radio show, this is the demo that got Biggie signed with Bad Boy. Biggie eats this freestyle. His ill word play and lyricism remain undisputed. This was right on time as people are in anticipation of the Notorious movie dropping January 16th, 2009. If you haven't caught the preview yet, check it out after the jump, the kid they cast to play Biggie looks dead on'. (R.I.P) (more...) [...]
I don't know exactly what to say other than I hope they stick with the "script". I've been disappointed with many movies in the past that portray some of my favorite musical artists. I really hope that this particular movie "Notorious" doesn't have me walking out the theater wishing that I didn't spend money on hip-hop blasphemy. I'll let you see the trailer yourself and we'll discuss this more come January 17, 2009.
I feel like posting some songs, just because of the great lyrics "Wouldn't it be great to be Dorian Gray, just for a day?" The Libertines - Narcissist A lovely question, wouldn't we all want to be that man of beauty from Oscar Wilde's novel. Its a great book which although overtly gay does conjure up some amazing imagery, coupled with the characterisation of the central character as this lustful, passion-desiring man who would sink to the lowest of lows and commit the most heinous acts for no fear of reprisal. I don't think [...]
Some of the dialogue looks really, really horrible. But yeah, I'm still going to see it Related posts: Video: Notorious Teaser
2 New tracks outta mr west recently. one of them I am feeling crazy about, and another one not so much. Myself and Coco Butta disagree on "Robocop" . I think its wackness, but he begs to differ. However, "Coldest Winter" in my opinion is the hottest song that he has put out on this record so far. So crack, this is the one where I believe that Kanye is actually hurt. Great song. On another note, this movie will be wild!!!
