Female guitar badass Marnie Stern hasn't released any new material since her self-titled LP in October of last year. Though she's touring with no new album to promote, her visits across the US are being commemorated with entries in her self-penned blog, The Vagina Monoblog . Perhaps a blog doesn't seem as exciting a tour ritual as the short-lived kissing booth she set up after a couple shows in 2008 to raise money for a speeding ticket, but the blog does offer a look into the refreshingly low-key lifestyle she and her band maintains while traveling. Crazy, raw or spontaneous? Hard to describe Marnie Stern's style and her super quick riffs with her double guitar. In a complex and progressive style the New-Yorker breaks every rules and create an original sound not so far from Dirty Projectors or Animal Collective. She'll be playing this Thursday at La Flèche d'Or and we have 3x2 tickets for the show.

Saw Marnie Stern live Friday night in Charlotte, NC at this dive bar called Snug Harbour. Stern was far less imposing than I had assumed. For some reason the artwork for her sophomore LP on Kill Rock Stars, This Is It... , makes her seem lanky and tall. In person, she's a tiny little thing, but, man, can she tear it up on guitar. Ask yourself this question. How much would a single, thirty-something dude who writes a music blog love an attractive 32 year old female guitarist who shreds with the greatest of the guitar gods?
