Brother Ali is huge here in Minneapolis and has received mountains of raving reviews, so imagine my surprise when I realized we've never written about him before. I'll admit it took me a while to get on board since hip hop/rap isn't quite my scene, but Brother Ali has flow, erudition and meaning in his work that other artists completely lack. Pitchfork said of him, "If rap didn't exist, he'd be

Say hello to one of hip-hop's best albums of the past 10 years. Brother Ali and Ant have done it again. A message to all rappers and artists in general in 2009, courtesy of the Beatnuts: "Watch out now!" Brother Ali, you bad mufucka, you have done it again. But should this come as a shock? Each and every album or EP he releases is, at the very least, good, if not great. With six previous efforts under his belt, this Minnesota emcee -- known for his storytelling, incredible lyrics, and gripping voice -- very rarely...
Us has everything you've come to expect from a Brother Ali album: powerful production from Ant and groundbreaking lyrics from Brother Ali. His storytelling abilities come alive like a beast awakening from hibernation, and the outcome is simply stunning; Ali is quickly on his way to becoming a legendary emcee, and Us is yet another nail in the pivotal coffin of truth.
Brother Ali's new album Us might be the realest album I've heard in years. The new video "Us" isn't close to the best song on the album, which is incredible. Most this album is not for party bumping, as Ali disects topics about crack, rape, and slavery. True to his character, one of the best storytellers in hip hop today, Ali also retains his rapping flare on tracks like "The Preacher," and "Bad Mufucker Pt. II." If you like hip hop, and I mean real hip hop, then YOU MUST get this album, and I don't say that [...]
New music from the midwest's own Brother Ali . The talented Ali was born Jason Newman in 1977 in Madison Wisconsin. Ali has as host of great records. His latest is Us. Ali and producer Ant set to release the album this month. The album was originally titled Street Preacher but later changed to Us . Ali, his DJ BK-One, and fellow Rhymesayers crew members Toki Wright and Evidence will all be touring this fall on the Fresh Air Tour. [...]
Check out this preview video for the upcoming new Brother Ali album Us, due out via Rhymesayers Entertainment on 21st September. For those who don't know, Brother Ali specialises in conscious and uplifting flows in the format of streetwise storytelling and all-round general sick-cypher delivering. Appearances can be deceiving, but the proof is indeed in the [...] Related posts: GIG: The Doctor's Orders 33: John Robinson Want to see John Robinson live in London?! Of... It's a well documented obsession that I have with Brother Ali, but one that I stand by without a shred of self-consciousness. I see literally NOTHING to not like about the guy. He's overcome a bunch of hurdles in his life - blindness, poverty, albinism - and come out the other side with a positive attitude, a good message, and a phenomenal way of spreading it. Street preacher indeed. To top off all the good message vibes, he has a flow like few others. He absolutely rips verses all over the place, [...]

We're getting pretty excited for Brother Ali's September 22 release.
Brother Ali will release his new album, Us, on September 22nd. The album is somewhat thematic, as Brother Ali's new music concentrates on the human element. The album's first single and title track offer a glimpse into the material, as Ali delivers a soulful song summed up by "I started rapping so they would notice me at the party, I found out that I already was, can't nobody be free until we're all free, there's no you, there's no me, just us." More info on the album, as well the mp3 and tease for "Us" are below. [...]
Brother Ali announces the release of his new album "Us" on September 22, 2009 from Rhymesayers Entertainment. According to the Rhymesayers website "Ali has turned his gaze inward, and started examining the human condition from the outside in. A profound personal glimpse into a vulnerability seldom seen or heard in music, Us touches on the strengths and flaws of the human condition, exploring drug abuse, divorce, homophobia and many more topics that most people are scared to touch in their own lives, much less on an album for the world to see." Ant [...]
*MP3: Brother Ali - "Us" After a starkly intimate acapella intro, the title track from Brother Ali's upcoming LP segues into an uplifting track with background vocals nodding to gospel and horns tipping their hat to soul. Though "Us" doesn't really lead the listener anywhere, the track is an intriguing curio that doubles as origin story—and, like most successful orgin stories, it leaves the listener wondering how the tale will exactly end. Brother Ali - Us Brother Ali is leaking the title track off his upcoming full-length album "Us". Check out the video below also....
Here is a great reason to listen to get Brother Ali's new album also titled Us which drops Sept. 22nd. This dude exudes more real hip-hop in one line than most rapper scan hope for in their entire life. I am also liking the simplicity of the video, it really makes it different and makes [...]
We might be in for something truly special with this one. I don't want to get my hopes set too high, but it's a new Ali LP on the way, people! I just watched this video about 6 times. September 22 can't come soon enough. You'd be making a huge mistake now to pre-order Us right now .
"Us" is the title track from Minneapolis rapper Brother Ali's upcoming fourth LP, the follow-up to his excellent The Undisputed Truth . The track is a dusty, neo-soul influenced joint of the Rhymesayers mold, with Ali dropping a pair of verses about starting rapping to be somebody, but realizing he already was. Us is due out on Sept. 22 via Rhymesayers. [ NahRight ]
