Now that Blur has reunited, we are the proud recipients of new music from Damon Albarn + Co. The guys have released two new tracks, "the Puritan," and "the Westway," both which were performed live today on the steamy rooftop of their London studio. The cuts are to be included on the "Blur 21: The Box" release scheduled to hit the streets on July 30. The guys were gracious enough to make sure that both tracks are polar opposites with the best qualities of what Blur has to offer, namely the songwriting and melody. [...]

Despite the fact that Damon Albarn had once hinted that he doesn't plan on making any new music with Blur , the band has released two new songs in honor of the 2012 Summer Olympics, which were shared via live video stream earlier today. Albarn had the forthcoming sold-out Hyde Park concert in mind when he wrote "Under The Westway" and "The Puritan," and the pair of songs will be released on August 6th as a limited edition single. So, a couple of hours ago (a week after their Twitter teasing),  Blur debuted their two new songs, Under The Westway and The Puritan . The tracks were delivered via a live performance from a London rooftop, broadcast globally via their website. The band have also released 'lyric' videos for each tune. As you probably know, Damon Albarn has been making quite a bit of noise regarding the uncertain future of Blur. The band is set to perform at the London Olympics, and these two new tracks are being released with the pretense of being for that performance, but given Albarn's flair for the dramatic, and how unlikely it is these songs will be left to forever linger without an LP to call home, let's keep our fingers crossed that the band is here to stay. Today, Blur performed two new tracks by the way of a live stream. Let's say that again: today, Blur performed TWO NEW TRACKS. To call "Under the Westway," Beatles-esque, is really a lazy way to describe the first of two new tracks release by Blur to coincide with their concert during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Sure, with its straightforward melody, gradual build, light harmonies and orchestration, restrained in tone, but not in scope, it shares many of the hallmarks of a classic Lennon/Mc Cartney composition from Sgt. I have always been a huge Brit Pop fan and Blur ranks right up there with the top dogs. Any day is a good day when you get a chance to hear two brand new tracks from the Brit legends. Holy-cats it's Blur ! We haven't heard from them since 20102s "Fool's Day," a one off for that year's Record Store Day. So why two new songs? Why now? Is an album on the way? A tour? No one knows, but we can sure as hell hope. "Under the Westway" is a pretty ballad that showcases just how strong and distinct Damon Albarn's voice remains after all these years.
