The holiday season is upon us, which for any self-respecting music writer means making end-of-the-year lists. I, like many a blogger, live for this kind of year-end reflection, so this will be the first of many lists. Here before you are the absolute 25 best music videos of the year 2008 . All the videos are embedded below for easy viewing, but I highly recommend you watch the higher quality version, which you can view (if available) by clicking on the song title. Except for the five at the end (the best of [...]
Release Date: 06.03.08 I have been a fan of Weezer since I first heard "Surf Wax America" from their debut when I was in college way back in 1994. I'm sure what drew me to the band was how much they sounded like The Cars (I remember buying The Cars' Heartbeat City on cassette in 1984) but it wasn't until 1996's underrated masterpiece Pinkerton that really got me on the geek rock bandwagon. Pinkerton is a collection of musings about love lost, half-Japanese girls, [...]
Everyone who has ever played a song on the guitar has probably played a Weezer song at some point in their life. With their easy to learn power chords and sing along choruses, there is not much stopping one from the tempting power of captivating the entire room with a break out session of "Say It Ain't So." Some bands dislike the "insulting" nature of easy to play songs, but Rivers Cuomo seems to have left every once of ill on Pinkerton , and now only loves people. Except Timbaland apparently. But he loves them so much that for [...]
Mainstream rock alterna-gods keep us scratching our aging heads.
Seriously, who doesn't love a classic Weezer video? And their new one? Right up with the rest. Oh yes, it ranks up there. Great little ditty--Perfect Summer tune.
I've been in love with Weezer since the 7th grade, when my friend from camp introduced me to "The Sweater Song." We used to sit in the back of the bus with our Walkman CD players covered in sticker pictures listening to the Blue album, screaming the word "skivvies" at the top of our lungs. We were that cool, especially with our around the back of the head headphones (which never quite worked for girls with long ponytails). Weezer was the first concert I ever went to, and the first band I truly obsessed over (with the [...]
I haven't owned a Weezer album since 1994's The Blue Album. I haven't really listened to them since I heard "Beverly Hills" for the... well... three millionth time . I had just lost interest in the band, honestly. In the past few days I noticed some friends online talking about the new Weezer video. So I decided to give it a good watch and ended up enjoying it thoroughly. The song, a stab at the band's record label for demanding a more commercial sound and look, is a good song. The video is [...]
Because I love Liam and everything he does. (And ah-hem [cough] may I just say? What a cutie.) So, in celebration of Liam and the more than 16 million views Kelly and "OMG Shoes" has had on YouTube: Let's play it again! And plus Weezer are pwning all your pork and beans with mustachios and YouTube stars: OMG. Shoez, betch!
If alt-rock ever gave us a summer album, it was Weezer's 1994 debut. And if Weezer has ever recorded a song since that captures the sound of that classic, it's "Pork And Beans." The distortion pedals, the lead that kicks in halfway through the chorus—the world has turned, and left us with a classic alt-rock summer jam just when the genre seemed consumed by the moldiest yarl. Um...this video r00lz. Enough said!
Weezer mikt op de youtube-generatie.
Honestly, I like Weezer's new album, dubbed The Red Album , more than I should. But, most of the album is uncompromisingly bland. From the generic riffs of "Everybody Get Dangerous" and "Dreamin'" to the embarrassingly silly tough man voice on "Cold Dark World," Rivers, Brian, Pat and Scott sound as if they are trying to make the worst album of all time. I honestly laughed the first time I listened to "Heart Songs," Cuomo's name-dropping ode to all that inspired him. And yet, I cannot help myself; I keep listening to The [...]

Also worth picking up are the new ones from The Ting Tings, Ladytron, Fleet Foxes, The Cool Kids, The Pinker Tones, The Virgins, and Baskervilles [...]
It implies I haven't been on the internet since last week, but I just watched that Pork And Beans clip. It's good: It kind of makes you go 'how'd they manage that?' Good job then that Buzzworthy has an interview with director Matthew Cullen . (The most surprising part of the meme-rich video? That it makes Weezer seem more relevant. You'd think that a clip with Tay [...]
Weezer has been active for about 16 years now. I think I've dug most of their discography (if not all...yes Make Believe is a shameful guilty pleasure). But Weezer's latest single has gone to epic levels of crap. I didn't understand what the blogosphere's craze was with the Pork and Beans and I still don't. I hated the song the second I heard it. It doesn't resemble anything that they've done and it makes Beverly Hills sounds like a #1 hit (oh wait...). First lets dissect the music, it's start off with a one note guitar line [...]
I was recently introduced to this very funny video for Weezer's latest single. It's full of cameos by YouTube stars, so those who will appreciate it most will probably have already seen it, but if you haven't, you're in for a treat. It's the kind of nerdy brilliance that only Weezer could pull off. I wouldn't say the song is one of Weezer's best, but it's up there and shows promising signs for their upcoming album (The Red Album). Then again, they're disappointing track record means I probably [...]
