I done been a fan of Vancouver, Canada's Black Mountain for quite some time now. The band's shuffle-y stoner rock stylings fuse the best elements of ethereal 70s classic prog rock with melodic Zeppelin fare and heavy Sabbath-esque riffage, and the blend makes for one hell of an exploratory journey of psychedelic balls-deep rawk. Take [...]

This one just confused me. Whilst there was a bluesy thread running through most of the album, at times it was on some Black Crowes ish then at others I was getting a Soundgarden feel albeit with co-ed vocals instead of those tow group's male lead vocal sound. The album was competent enough but ultimately I didn't feel like there a lot of new ground being broken here and pushing the envelope of artistry and/or creativity kind of felt like it should be at the core of any album that was gonna be a serious [...]

"Play those death wish chords!" Most of the time, I have no Earthly idea what the hell Black Mountain are singing about. They're like old Black Sabbath on white lightning acid. It's bleak, retrorock, heavy and hard, with lyrics about pain and death and nuclear war and all kinds of things I can't understand. But I've loved this band for years. On their new release, Wilderness Heart, they continue to morph into a band with range and serious acoustic ability. If you're looking for more of the same, this is the wrong album for you. But [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , New Music , Canada , New Releases Black Mountain 's new album, 'Wilderness Heart,' may not directly reference Frodo Baggins or Middle-Earth, but make no mistake, J. R. R. Tolkien's fantastical trilogy did indeed inspire moments on their just-released record. "When we were recording at London Bridge Studio someone would be doing their guitar part and the rest of the band would be in the other room with all the lights off watching [...]
This is the new video for "The Hair Song" by Black Mountain. The indie rock group signed to Jagjaguwar label remind me of Better Than Ezra with a mixed of alt-country. Not that I'm big of genres, but I find the video more interesting than the song itself. The style, record shops, and skateboarding are [...] Read more at www.SFCritic.com
Goddamn, I love good music. Black Mountain are thoroughly impressive with their classic, fresh scrubbed hippie rock, we're going to play you some music in a field, which we will get to on our skateboards vibe. "The Hair Song" is from their Jagjaguwar release, Wilderness Heart, out 9/14.

Well, no regular post today. Too short a day, too busy a day and now I'm home and so relaxed, the idea of posting an album does not sound so hotness. What DOES sound hotness is the book I'm reading on my kindle on my porch in my rocking chari AND the chicken tacos I got cookin' on the stove! Uh huh! Mmm...... Tacos & sci-fi! Anywhosal, not to leave you wondering & waiting, thought I'd pipe in with some [...]

Okay, so it's pretty much your kid-on-a-skateboard while band-plays-in-a-field with shots of band-members in ruins, but who cares? It's looking like this Black Mountain album is going to be EPIC.

Somewhat ashamedly Black Mountain are new on my radar. The Canadian 5-some offer up a combination of psych-rock and blues-rock in their latest track 'The Hair Song'. Taking a listen to some of their back-catalogue it seems these guys like to get heavy sometimes with some real metal influences evident on their 2008 album In The Future , 'The Hair Song' seems a more accessible track with a joyous feel to it. 'The Hair Song' is taken from the band's upcoming album Wilderness Heart which [...]
