Video: Yuna - Thinkin Bout You (Frank Ocean Cover)

Not sure how I missed this when it dropped in July. Probably because of the ginormous amount of Frank Ocean remixes going around this summer.. especially Thinkin Bout You. I can claim I lost it in the shuffle.. or that I did hear but wasn’t feeling it at the time? The fact is I dig this. It’s cool. I love the DIYness about the whole operation. Technology has enabled amazing things in our day. Take for example our hero, Yuna, who recorded this song and video in her home in LA and put it out for the world. Chuch

Yuna is a wonderful new singer that I discovered, I think with the help of KCRW . She's Malaysian-born but now based in Los Angeles and signed to the FADER label. This acoustic cover of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" perfectly demonstrates her vocal skills. The more I listen to it, the more I kinda like it better than the original, although I have to say that it's so different that its really a case of apples and oranges.  I'll have more from Yuna coming up in future posts. Unless you been in a coma you know tomorrow Frank Ocean's album, Channel Orange , hits stores physically. Ocean has pretty much owned the month of July and thanks to countless covers streaming on the net. If Ocean's sales from his iTunes album release are any indication, we are sure Ocean will own this entire summer. Two of the best covers we heard these past few days have been Yuna's , "Thinkin About You," from his Channel Orange album and Afgan Whigs, "Lovecrimes," cover from Nostalgia, ULTRA. It's pretty obvious that Frank Ocean owns "Thinkin About You," a song he originally penned for Bridget Kelly that ended up making his new album Channel Orange . At the height of Ocean hysteria, Malaysian singer Yuna recorded a cover of the track in her LA home. Yuna's self-titled album is out now . I'm such a huge fan of covers featuring people looping their own vocals like this. Yuna can hand this off to anyone and be like yeah, that's entirely me. Talent for days. Doesn't quite touch the Frank Ocean original, but that's not what she set out to do here. When Yuna tweeted the other day asking fans if she should do a Frank Ocean cover, it was pretty obvious what the answer would be. With Ocean being talked about everywhere by everyone, the timing couldn't be more perfect. Here's Yuna's vocally-driven cover of "Thinkin' Bout You."
