Toronto musician John O'Regan debuted his solo project Diamond Rings with "All Yr Songs," a straight pop injection that's as playful and fun as it is warm and endearing. Originally released in August of 2009 on his own boutique label Hype Lighter , the song has become a quintessential summer anthem for me with its silly and easy to sing-along lyrics ("Cause in the summer weather, we put sunscreen on together / I would not want your skin to burn") and insistent acoustic strum and drum machine beat. While much of the music that saturates blogs everyday will soon [...]
Diamond Rings is literally as cool as ice (and by ice I mean the kind that rappers rap about, the diamond kind that glitters...a lot). I had the chance to briefly speak with him a little while ago right before his epic Vancouver show. It was refreshing speaking to someone who really doesn't care what people [...]

What a sassy album cover! There is high anticipation come October 26, 2010 when Diamond Rings drops the long awaited full-length debut called Special Affections. When Emily Jeffers and I interviewed him back in April 8, 2010 . This is what he said about the album. "There are ten songs right now—it might change. There's a bit of everything. It jumps all over the place. Some songs are really guitar-oriented, some are piano ballads, some are in between, some are rap, some are really atmospheric. I [...]

lackadaisical candy. lackadaisical candy. lackadaisical candy. (we saw Diamond Rings at the Green Room during last years pop Montréal. 6263 of eyeliner'd stage presence. He says the inspiration for his dress sense comes from Woody Harrelson in 'White Men Can't Jump' and early Spike Lee movies.)
A couple of things to note this week... First, Dream Date at the Astoria moves from Sunday to Tuesday (that's tonight). Second, Wednesday sees the kick off of the Fake Jazz Festival , which goes all week, and which I probably won't get to check out enough of... but you definitely should, if you can. This one isn't part of the regular weeklies, but on Thursday, Scion Presents... King Khan, Twin Crystals, and White Lung for free. The reason I'm mentioning it again is because, even though it's free, [...]

All Yr Songs - Diamond Rings

Keeping with the Valentine's Day theme of the weekend how about some Diamond Rings ? Actual diamond rings probably sell like hotcakes this time of year with all of the opposite marriage proposals that happen...but who cares about all that! I'll take my Diamond Rings in the form of music from Toronto based musician John O'Regan. If you are an avid blog reader or from Canada you may know Mr. O'Regan from his band The D'Urburvilles but he's been making cute and catchy electronic bedroom pop as Diamond Rings since last summer too. AND besides the music, [...]

Filed under: Holy Hell , Canada , New Releases After his homemade video for 'All Yr Songs' was removed from YouTube by request of Sony/BMG, Toronto electro-pop act Diamond Rings (John O'Regan, also of D'Urbervilles ) was " upset ," to say the least -- mainly because he never gave consent. "They just took it down. Apparently, it was a 'copyright infringement,'" he tells Spinner. "I went back and watched it again and again [but] couldn't find anything that would warrant that kind of attention." [...]

Tonight's song comes from John O'Regan, and his indie-pop/electronic-folk (yeah I'm genre tagging something electronic-folk) side-project Diamond Rings; his main project is fronting the Toronto-based indie-rock act The D'Ubervilles. As far as I can tell, the ridiculously charming All Yr Songs can only be found on a 7-inch vinyl split-release featuring Diamond Rings and Kingston, Ontario's PS I Love You. Unfortunately, said release has been sold out and I have no leads on how to get more music from Diamond Rings. If anyone has any information on a forthcoming release from the band, let me know. Until then, you [...]

What does it take to become a success in Toronto? Maybe you have to be tall, skinny and covered in neon blue? It certainly works for the CN Tower . So John O of Diamond Rings is giving it a whirl as well. Born and bred in Oshawa, John's day job is the lead singer of the indie-rock group ' The D'urbervilles .' But his solo project, Diamond Rings, began getting a lot of attention at the end of August when John released a vibrant music video for his first single, 'All Yr Songs'.

Toronto's John Regan is normally the front man for the arty punk band D'Urbervilles, but he's getting a lot of exposure with his new side project these days. It's called Diamond Rings and it lets him show off his poppier lo-fi side with his debut All Yr Songs . It's available on 7" vinyl at Hype Lighter . We've got it posted as our Track of the Week below. [...]
There's a lot of nostalgia revolving around the Toronto-based project Diamond Rings, but that don't call it dated. This is modern. The internet is why you're hearing genuine bedroom pop like this, duh.John O is the sole member of Diamond Rings, which seems to be his home away from home when he's not delving into more adventurous efforts with The D'Urbervilles. This track is currently out on a
Yeppers it's NO MORE STRANGERS time, getting some new tunes together. The one I am most excited about you ask? From Toronto. Diamond Rings - All Yr Songs

You probably don't want all the gory details, but I've been sick all week, hence, no posts. So, sadly, this week's Pick of the Week isn't exactly going to be as comprehensive as usual (note: usually they're not comprehensive, so you're not really missing much). The first time I saw this video via Colin Medley (dir.)'s blog I said to Liz "it looks like the guy from the D'Urbervilles got into his Mom's closet" (jokingly)... kind of like the scene on Friends where Ross dresses up in girl clothes and hosts [...]

"All Yr Songs" by Diamond Rings may very well be the most catchy song I've heard all summer, which is saying something given how goofy and insultingly simple it is. Made up of a tinny drum loop, cereal box romance, and sunny oohs and ahhs , the song's repetitive simplicity is infectious. What really sells the track for me is its public access-looking music video; its aesthetics are somewhere between the Saved by the Bell intro and Robin Sparkles' " Let's Go to the Mall ." [...]

Hot Freaks! alum and MOKB fav , Ola Podrida will return with a new album this Fall (Nov. 10th). Main man, David Wingo tells MOKB, " I feel like it's a long time coming and am way psyched. It'd called Belly of the Lion and I'm releasing it with Western Vinyl this time around. " He goes on to explain the changes within his project, " [...]
John O from once Guelph residents the D'urbervilles has got himself a side called Diamond Rings , and it's catchy awesome good. Even grabbing some Pitchfork lovin' already. "Diamond Rings' debut single "All Yr Songs" is a totally slammin' jam. Destined for portable stereos and beach parties the world over, it is available through his Toronto based boutique label Hype Lighter . Limited to an edition of 300 and pressed to purple 7 inch vinyl, this unique collectible also features his top friends [...]
