Oak Ridge Boys Cover White Stripes
So the Oak Ridge Boys have a new album coming out May 19 aptly titled The Boys Are Back , and it contains a version of The White Stripes ' Seven Nation Army that you can here in the video above. It's good and all, but it's no Elvira . Or Y'all Come Back Saloon . Or Flowers on the Wall - even though that's the Statler Brothers . Also, the dude with the imperial (that's a soul patch to you [...]

By eh I've been out of the office for a few days, and kind of out of the world, but things have still happened on the Internet. Let's play some catchup, shall we? Kid plays SMB theme song on the Balalaika -- it's awesome. His delivery, intensity and everything is kick ass. The Oak Ridge Boys cover the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army." Band jams along to a fire alarm: "Our fire alarm seems to wail [...]
Oak Ridge Boys vs. The White Stripes
Remember these guys? I do. I was three years old in 1981 when The Oak Ridge Boys released their smash hit, "Elvira," and it was possibly the only song I listened to that entire year. Obviously, I don't remember much from 1981 (I was only three). But I remember that song, I remember my worn out .45 single, and I remember singing "Giddy-up-a-boom-bop-a-mow-mow " at the top of my lungs every chance I had. "Elvira" and The Dukes of Hazzard theme song may have been the first two songs I ever learned. [...]

Jack White, especially in his work with the Raconteurs, and lesser so in his work with the White Stripes, has flirted with going all out country, moving over to a different American form other than the blues. So it's fitting that finally a country group, in this case the Oak Ridge Boys, have covered White, in the form of their harmonious and pretty cool cover of "Seven Nation Army" that finds the group attacking the vocals together, and voicing the first and third guitar solos instead of allowing the guitar to have the spotlight. [...]
Not The Statler Brothers, But The Other Country Vocal Group Will Be At SXSW [The 'elvira' Guys, Not The Group On The Pulp Fiction Soundtrack]
I've never been to SXSW, so it's a little hard for me to understand how exactly the whole thing works from the generally ecstatic coverage the event receives, especially from online sources. As far as I can tell, attendees wander from jam-packed showcase to jam-packed showcase, largely to see bands they were already familiar with or acts that are looking to jumpstart their dying career in the states with a bit of hype and then eat barbecue and drink Lone Star beer. It does sound like fun, but it seems more of an excuse for bloggers to take a [...]
