It feels a little lonely over here at Monitor Mix. After a two-week extravaganza wherein we covered all things related to the end of the decade in music, replete with about a dozen contributors, alas, it is now left solely to me to carry on. Very well, then. Let's proceed! Aside from hours spent listening to mixes on a drive to Ohio for Thanksgiving -- then hearing Cherry Red 's CD reissue of the Girls at Our Best album Pleasure (another prized piece in my vinyl collection; [...]
Despite Sonic Youths' endless critical plaudits over the years and their emergence at the time when I began developing a real taste in the alternative, I never gravitated to their music. Let's be honest. Sonic Youth is an acquired taste and their music, at its most experimental, is difficult to absorb with hooks that take multiple listens prior to setting in the jaw. I was first exposed to the band through their appropriately titled Experimental Jet Set album. The "tricks" seemed interesting and the band was so alternative that you felt cool just telling people that you had [...]

THESE ARE RELEVANT MUSIC VIDEOS + ANALYSIS BY THE BLOGGER, CARLES /////// Video: Dirty Projectors - Stillness is the Move Analysis: I feel pressured to blog about this because they are apparently 'relevant' even though I don't really 'get' why. Feel like I don't 'trust' people who 'ooze praise' for the Dirty Projecties. I am not sure what this video is 'trying to be.' Think it is trying to be conceptual/artsy, but then also trying to be 'normal.' Probably like [...]
Sonic Youth is back with their best work since Washing Machine .
Sonic Youth have just released the first video from their new album The Eternal for the lead single "Sacred Trickster". Let me just say this album is the bomb and I have my take on it in the works for later this week. This video is the bomb too but more in a literal sense. mp3: Sonic Youth - Sacred Trickster The Eternal is out via Matador ____________________ Listen to more Sonic Youth on: The [...]
Situationism Sonic Youth's new video for the single off their recently released new album The Eternal shows a sassy group of girls pulling a fun stunt on a bourgeois group at a roof party. It's been compared to the band's 1990 video for 'Dirty Boots' , in which a rock and roll fantasy plays out in a grunge club, kids swoon over eachother from afar and then make out on stage, before being ripped apart by security and stage [...]

Pedestrian.TV says Sonic Youth's video for its single "Sacred Trickster" "looks like some first year film student's garage project." What else can I say? It's why we find this band so endearing.
by charles poladian What is good party people? So, I hear the rumor on the streets is that young cats, like myself and you, loyal reader, dig festivals. Well, if that's the case, we must have died and gone to heaven last weekend. You had Bonnaroo for those who seriously wanted to party and Northside Festival for those who only wanted to party locally or could not afford to party hardy. But enough chatter, let's get the Reel rolling. [...]
