Hi, This is an interview I wrote for DiS. It was sent to them well before Christmas, but never went live, which is a shame. It's posted here for completeness' sake, and because I have a fond memory of making them laugh with 'the Stephen Malkmus gag'. Photo is by Diana Thompson. Great shot. ------------ "Welcome to Premier Inn. How are you today?" The man is wearing a waistcoast and a well practiced smile. He is excellent at his job, and in moments we are seated in comfortable chairs in [...]

Some call it the "Oscars for youth," but realistically, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) feel more like crack for gossipers. Controversy! Chaos! Glam! Anything can happen. It used to be waiting anxiously for Madonna's next "big move," whether it was her flashing some ass or offering some tongue. (Gross? Hardly.) Nowadays, it's more about who's going to screw up, what will be the grand upset, and, admittedly, who's going to be the next "Kanye." Keywords, people: sex and drama. But that's always been the case with the VMAs. Wait, you don't actually think it's a special award? [...]

Rock bands, hip-hop artists and entertaining in-between activities are what's making Chicago Lollapalooza tickets sell out so fast this year. That's right, tickets are sold out for August 5 th , 6 th and 7 th . But here's just a look of what's to come for ticket-holders. Eminem, Cee Lo, Foo Fighters, Crystal Castles, Cults and Cold War Kids are just a few of the performers that fans can feast their eyes upon. But speaking of feasts, there will be plenty of gourmet eats for festival goers as well, and not to mention several other cool [...]
I was thinking this morning that I never did do a "Best of..." list for either 2009 or 2010. It's a bit of a daunting task the way I do it, but in anticipation of doing that, I put together a list of 25 songs from last year that I really enjoyed, and I figured I might as well share that, six months late be damned. The rankings are rough at best, but give a general idea, and it'll be a nice preview for the album list if I ever get around to that. Because this is gonna [...]

Aubrey O'Day has always had head-turning style — as a Playboy cover girl, a Heatherette's model and a Danity Kane babe, it comes with the territory. But don't forget, there's a rigorous exercise regimen behind that bangin' bod . "Music is my entire inspiration to work out," says the singer, whose new reality show All About Aubrey premieres March 7 on Oxygen. "I find it very hard to work out without it! All my music has great lyrical content, great beats, and it all helps me fade away into other thoughts... Which is key [...]

Caribou Swim Released April 19, 2010 (Merge) Short Notes: IDM that doesn't bring much to the table, even for a minimalist album. Brandon: B- I'd been wanting to check out a Caribou record for a few years. Dan Snaith is one of the major figures in the so-called IDM ("intelligent dance music") scene, synthesizing more standard pop with house and electronica techniques and sounds. His music is less dance-y than bands I'm more familiar with (Hot [...]

We'll continue our top 25 countdown with songs #5 through #1. #5: All of the Lights - Kanye West The third and final selection from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy , "All of the Lights," explodes following a swollen string section interlude, morphing the album's impeccable middle section, with "Power" leading into "All of the Lights" and swirling off with "Monster." With that, "All of the Lights" is the album's polished core, swimming in blasting drum beats, guest voices, and a daunting platform -- [...]

Hey, everyone! Happy New Year! I hope that you have a good one, and that you're surrounded by good food, friends, and music. It's been a long year over here (the epic dissertation struggle continues), and I haven't always been the most attentive (you're top of the list of New Year's Resolutions!)... but I wanted to thank everyone for all their love and support. I've been positively blown away by the amount of excellent music that has been sent my way, and the... well, legitimacy, I seem to have stumbled into. So, in 2011, I'll be stepping up [...]

In an era of short attention spans and singles, Cee Lo makes a real album.

Welcome to the world of hip hop Chris Webby . One look and again you might write him off as another white kid trying to rap, but one listen and those thoughts will disappear. It is pretty incredible how far this kid has come. The Connecticut rapper debuts his fifth mixtape Best In The Burbs , showing his progression as an artist. Chris Webby has got the lyrics and the punchlines to hang in with the best of them and his [...]
Lists are very much self indulgent, but if you don't indulge in anything, you are boring. Some folks indulge in foie gras, some in cheap hookers - I indulge in stirring the tempest of the internets. It's our vices that make us people. Without further ado, here is my list of the ten best records this year. If you agree or disagree (my preference), holla in the comments. Have a trill new year.10~

Black Keys - "Tighten Up" from Brother It's scary to think of a time when Dan and Patrick will be responsible for the well being of youngsters. The Avett Brothers - "Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise" from I and Love and You I love a video that takes an egregious amount of time to produce. This Jason Ryan Mitcham video took 2,600 alterations of the same painted to create. Great [...]
I'll be honest - the Grammys have been disappointing for a long time. While Katy Perry and Justin Beiber (really? Justin Beiber?) earning nominations for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards makes me shake my head in complete dismay, some of the other nominees this year are really stellar. Here's some highlights of my favourite nominees [...]

Posted via iHipHop.com While many artists remain stagnant, Cee-Lo Green is constantly evolving. After revolutionizing Southern Hip Hop alongside Goodie Mob , Cee-Lo teamed up with the momentous producer, Danger Mouse , to form the experimental group, Gnarles Barkley . It was not long before this point that Cee-Lo realized he could do a lot more with his voice than rhyme and decided go out on his own as a vocalist. " When it comes to ladies, I have a license to kill " remarks [...]
Juzguen ustedes mismos. [...]
The man behind The Single of the Year plays it smooth but a little too safe on his accompanying full length. One of those rare miracles of pop music that graces us from time to time, Cee-Lo Green's joyous "Fuck You" hit the ground running upon its late-summer release this year with a momentum that is staggering even in this instant access, Internet-meme age. A word-of-mouth hit even with a title, chorus, and several key lyrics that cannot be aired on radio or MTV, "Fuck You" has vaulted such possibly-no-longer-existent boundaries (Pitchfork's Ryan Dombal rather astutely...
