PS22 Chorus Flashback: White Stripes, Björk, Beach House, More While many of us, myself included, were first made aware of the undeniably adorable PS22 kids chorus — led by music teacher/Tori Amos fanatic Gregg Breinberg — when they took on Phoenix’s “Listzomania” last year (a cover that even pulled at the heartstrings of the band), Breinberg’s rotating cast of Staten Island, NY 5th graders have actually been filming versions of well-known pop, classic rock, and new wave songs, not to mention a few lesser-known indie faves (e.g. Beach House’s “Zebra”), for 10+ years. While these videos of Harlem's PS22 chorus have already made the rounds compiling close to 500,000 views a piece, they still make for a refreshing view on the public school system. Congratulations to PS22 on 15 Million Hits! The lovely kids at PS22 on Staten Island are getting pretty popular these days. As of this morning, the PS22 chorus has received over 15 million hits on their youtube videos - 3 million alone in January of 2010! For those of you who aren't familiar with the chorus and their ambitious instructor, Gregg Breinberg (or Mr. B) I highly recommend a trip over to the PS22 Blog.  You'll find all sorts of great stories and videos of performances and rehearsals of some pretty unusual material for 5th graders. I'm talking Björk, Nick Drake, Jay-Z and Nina Simone! [...]
