My listening habits have been strange lately. Check that my listening habits have always been strange. I tend to get stuck on certain bands and even certain songs for unhealthy stretches of time. Currently I have been stuck on Julian Casablancas' solo album Phrazes For The Young , specifically track number six - "River Of Brakelights". I'm not saying listening to one song over and over is a bad thing, but it does limit my ability to thoroughly listen to new albums. [...]
Cloud Cult were pretty amazing last night. I was a new experience to watch visual artist Connie Minowa work on stage while listening to her husband and band perform. It felt good, watching a band that does so much for environmental causes on Earth Day.
DOWNLOAD: Cloud Cult - Take Your Medicine (MP3) Cloud Cult @ Monolith, Sept 2007 ( CRED ) It's been too long since the last time I saw Cloud Cult , and they recently had me worried because of a bunch of show cancellations, so I'm getting excited just typing that everything must be okay, and I'll have a chance to see them at SXSW in March and then again at Bowery Ballroom on April 18th.....10 days after a NEW [...]
...but not together... It's always a big deal for a band to play the Bowery Ballroom in NYC - either because it means they're starting to "get big" , or because they're already big and they want to make some noise . It's also a great place to play - good sound, good sight lines, big enough to be comfortable in, but small enough to still feel like a small-venue-show. Then there are the bands who seem "big", but never seem to break out of the smaller [...]
As Pablo Picasso said, "Amateurs imitate, Professionals steal." In this spirit, I am going to introduce you to a few artists this week that I have heard on some of my favorite blogs. And there is no better place to start than Lost in Your Inbox with the extraordinary Cloud Cult. Haunting and tentative, half of their songs leave me weeping into somebody's coffee on the subway--and let me tell you THAT gets quite the reaction! None more than this song I have to say. They have a new [...]
I am a little disappointed to find out that Cloud Cult, who is finally coming to Baltimore, will just be the opener for three local Baltimore bands at the Ottobar and the opener for Exitclov at the Black Cat. No offense to these bands, but Cloud Cult deserves a headlining spot at both of these venues, especially with the attention they have been getting recently. Anyway, I'll still go support them in the hopes that they will be in that spot the next time they come around. Here is a great studio performance of "Pretty Voice" off of [...]
