Video: The Pixies - In Heaven

Before the Pixies covered In Heaven , the song appeared in David Lynch's classic Eraserhead . You can now buy a reissue of the soundtrack to Eraserhead on vinyl and imagine your own lady in the radiator. Though  In Heaven  sounded like it was sung by a female vocalist, it was actually written and performed by  Peter Ivers .

In Heaven ist unter all den Stücken die nie auf einem der vier Studioalben der Pixies erschienen sind meine absolute Lieblingsnummer. Der Text nur ein Satz, den Black Francis erst spricht, dann nasal weinerlich singt, und schließlich, als die Gitarren noch unerbittlicher dreinsägen, beim dritten Mal nur noch aus vollster Kehle brüllt als wäre er tatsächlich in einem Lynch-Film gefangen. Ich habe bestimmt über ein Dutzend verschiedene Livefassungen davon über die Jahre hinweg gefunden, und jede Fassung ist irgendwie anders, die Dynamik der Band und auch die Intonation der Schreie geben jeder Darbietung eine andere Färbung, erwecken diese Fassung [...]

This cover rather than being from another artist instead originates from a character in a movie. One of Black Francis' biggest influences for his lyrics is from surrealist film with Un Chien Andalou (for Debaser) and this particular song from David Lynch's Eraserhead being the two most apparent examples. Supposedly in the early days of the band they all caught a screening of the film when it was playing in a town they happened to be in for a show. According to Charles (Black) himself he finds David Lynch films "Highly entertaining in the area of entertainment- a bit surreal, [...]
