Brandon Welchez (Vocals, Programming) and Charles Rowland (Guitar, Synth) comprise scuzzy San Diego duo Crocodiles who are set to play at Victoria's Meredith Festival later this year. They've been compared to everyone from Velvet Underground and The Jesus & Mary Chain and after their pals in No Age listed their single "Neon Jesus" among their top ten songs of 2008 on Stereogum, the buzz began. We had a quick chat with the 20-something-year-old boys about doorbell ditching, being booed on stage and "wetting beaks" with Wavves. P: You guys are playing at the Meredith Music Festival [...]

Crocodiles are nice guys. Despite all the fuss about crystal meth, drugs, anger that surrounds this up-and-coming Southern Californian duo emerging from the same "scene" (but don't call it that way please!) that gave us Wavves, Crystal Stilts, Blank Dogs and many more, when I arrived at Bardens Boudoir - where they would later present their new album Summer Of Hate in the last date of their European tour - about one and a half hour late for our interview*, they kept that sort of composure and politeness that one would expect to find in British folks [...]

Crocodiles. Crocodiles - Refuse Angels from [...]

I'm telling you that the Crocodiles ' Summer of Hate is going to be one of my top albums of this year. It is out TODAY (4/28), so go grab a copy ASAP. We are in the process of trying to talk these guys to come to town with Holy Fuck, so be on the look out. Their sound is EPIC. Check out "Neon Jesus" above and a few tracks below to wet your whistle. I've had a chance to listen to the whole album and I will be first in line today to buy the LP! [...]

When we first started this little journey, we were months away from the most recent, most important election of our lives. Determined to keep America from blowing it again, we attacked the right wing with a passion. We hoped that our little voice might point out the....dumbing of America that was being perpetrated by the Republican party. With Obama's victory, we began focusing on the celebration of great music while recognizing the hidden enemy. Bad music has and will continue to dumb down Americans. Today, begins a new chapter for TDOA. We've begun [...]

Fat Possum's efforts to diversify beyond their largely blues-based roster of artists has lead the label into the realm of noisy pop with recent additions Wavves and Crocodiles. I recently posted about Wavves, and after checking out (thanks Stereogum ) Crocodiles, I gotta say Fat Possum is 2 for 2. Crocodiles is composed of ex-members of The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower and Some Girls (wow...really??? That still blows my mind). Where other bands lumped into the noise-pop revival tend to conjure memories of [...]

Crocodiles - "Neon Jesus" mp3 Crocodiles - "Summer of Hate" mp3 As Lauren commented the other day - when it comes to SXSW, EVERY band is marketed as the next band to watch. But Crocodiles are the real deal. After getting the album the other day, we've been listening to it fairly constantly, to the pleasure of all in the office. Crocodiles have been a band to watch for awhile and Stereogum graced them with the BTW moniker just a few weeks [...]

When we gathered up our favorite artists' year-end lists No Age included Crocodiles' "Neon Jesus" as one of their top 10 "shredders" of '08: "[Crocodiles are] a great new band from San Diego. This song is a real good kinda early eighties electro punk pop jam. It is super catchy." All true, but something No Age didn't mention is that it also sounds -- in a great way -- like Velvet Underground-swinging Jesus & Mary Chain. And if you take a look at one of the sunglasses-with-attitude photos of ex-Prayers/The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower's [...]
I had no idea Crocodiles were playing in town until about 3 minutes ago. All I do is stare at local music calendars--and Punky Brewster fan fiction --all day long, how did I miss this? Christ. The band, which I have absolutely no music from (other than the above YouTube clip), will be given the golden star of approval solely based on their previous acts, the unfuckwithable the Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower and the sadly underrated the Prayers . The quality of their [...]
