I'll confess that I cannot get into Nicolas Jaar's debut album Space Is Only Noise at all despite the amount of times I've seen it praised. However, every bit of work Jaar has done since has pretty much floored my senses. The double A-side solo ‘Don’t Break My Love’/ 'Why Didn't You Save Me', his refixes , 'And I Say' and his collab as Darkside . All are magnificent. As is this, his remix of Shlohmo's 'Rained The Whole Time'. His ability to produce unique percussion and bass [...]

M.I.A. - Bad Girls Madonna - Give Me All Your Luvin (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj) Miike Snow [...]

by Andrew Sacher Nicolas Jaar walked on stage just minutes before midnight at the sold out Clown & Sunset showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (2/3) after opening sets by Pavla + Noura , Valentin Strip , and Acid Pauli . He stood surrounded by keyboards and straddling a vintage style microphone in front of a backdrop of slowly drifting images of nature and architecture. The set began with some heavily blurred vocals and swirling atmospheres, but [...]
This bizarre music video for Nicolas Jaar's "Materials" just surfaced and is well worth a watch. It's directed by Pondr, though it remains unclear as to if it is official or not. Regardless, both the song and the video are wonderfully engaging and mutually complementary. "Materials" starts off haphazardly, with hints of jazz, minimalist techno, metallic slashes. A pale little boy seems trapped in a series of unnerving hallucinations. Jaar systematically tweaks the disjointed elements into a smoothly whirring machine. The little boy escapes into nature... OR DOES HE?! Nicolas Jaar - "Materials" [...]

Nicolas Jaar is a young (younger than me) talented musician, with a minimalist, yet expressive sound. It feels sort of out of place to post about this song "Materials," which was off his 2010 EP Mark & Angels , but it is just now getting a video. The video is quite weird and some interesting stuff takes place, but I guess it fits the song. Watch below. Fresh? Tweet

Having released an album, two EPs and a string edits last year last year, Nicolas Jaar ’s glitchy, delicate, weird, ambient pop song ‘Materials’ has a new fan directed video by Pondr . Featuring supernatural floating horns and scary clowns, the video begins by following what appears to be a child version of the producer playing with a piano, before he eventually realises what the adult version of himself is capable of.
Nicolas Jaar's progression from thrumming ambient house minimalism in his debut "The Student" EP on Wolf + Lamb to his now fully fleshed out live act (Clown and Sunset Aesthetics collective) is pretty remarkable. Here's more of Jaar doing what he does best - atmospheric piano moodiness with a heavy touch of trumpets added. Catch his PSA1 exhibition on February 5th, a five-hour live performance by Jaar and others.
Nicolas Jaar and the talented folks over at Clown & Sunset are currently gearing up for a five-hour live performance set to take place this Sunday at MoMA PS1 in New York City. The performance, dubbed "From Scratch" will act as a launch party in celebration of the evolution of Jaar's label into a dynamic multimedia culture house: Clown & Sunset Aesthetics . "The five-hour, continuous piece will combine recording, sampling, and looping techniques with analogue instrumentation and sound-derived video from CSA's resident filmmaker Ryan Staake as well as a movement piece from [...]

wicked video for Nicolas Jaar 's Materials directed by Pondr
For being only 22-years-old, American-Chilean musician Nicolas Jaar has taken his music to a highly conceptual and experimental level, a plane that a lot of musicians tend to reach only once they've exhausted what they did best in the first place. Sure, Jaar's music may seem weird or eccentric upon first listening to it, but since when was weird or eccentric ever a bad thing? Not only that, but Jaar has a knack for taking simplistic ideas or concepts and running with it in exciting ways. Sounds that you may have thought would not work do just the [...]
An unofficial music video for the Nicolas Jaar track, "Materials." Despite a formal linkage to the material created by one of the most creative electronic music producers out there right now, the video is incredibly intriguing and surreal. Kudos to the director, Pondr. / via /

Nicolas Jaar is around a year older than I am, but already a certifiable musical genius, making me feel unaccomplished and untalented by comparison. He does minimal in the absolutely best way possible, and is often more ambitious than the rest of his peers, evidenced by his 5 hour experimental show at MoMA's PS1 this Sunday. Not to mention that his last track, " And I Say ," is all the P&P team really listens to anymore. His track "Materials," off of his 2010 Mark & Angels EP, is now getting the video treatment. It's a [...]
