Video: Levi's® Pioneer Sessions: She & Him

  The first day of LouFest was nothing short of a smashing success.  I still can't get over the simple fact that I biked 5 minutes from my house to my local park ( Forest Park ) and saw Broken Social Scene , Built To Spill , The Airborne Toxic Event , Lucero , Titus Andronicus , Adam Reichmann , So Many Dynamos , stephaniesid , and Bottle Rockets .  Where else can you do that?  (have fun trying to bike to Lollapalooza)  [...]

Levi's has started a little covers project called the Pioneer Sessions . The Shins , NAS , Swell Season and many more bands are being recruited to cover an influential song for them. An email address is all they require and then you can download the singles. My favorite thus far is She & Him (M Ward and Zooey Deschanel) covering Ricky Nelson's Fools Rush In . They are magic anyway but when they hit a classic like this it transcends. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

She & Him recently covered Ricky Nelson's "Fools Rush In" for Levi's Pioneer Sessions. While, it would've been awesomer to cover "Lonesome Town," Zooey pretty much kills this version. She and M. Last week, Nas covered Slick Rick for Levi's , and this week it's She & Him covering "Fools Rush In," an old song that was performed by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis . Zooey Deschanel looks kind of bored in the above video, but M. Ward kills it on acoustic, rocking out pick-free. I'm still more interested in the Dirty Projectors doing Bob Dylan than anything else in this Pioneer Sessions Levi's thing.

Levi's have started a new sessions' concept called Pioneer's Sessions as part of their new digital branding campaign. To tell you the truth, I don't really care about Levi's or any other big company's branding campaign. What I do care though, is when I see our beloved Zooey Deschanel along with Matt Ward covering the classic Fools Rush In. Especially with Zooey in high red boots...now that's an instant classic!

In the latest Levi’s Pioneer Session, She & Him went into the studio and recorded a cover of the track “Fools Rush In”. Rube Bloom and Johnny Mercer collaborated on several songs in the ’40s, though “Fools Rush In” is considered their timeless classic. Cover versions of the song are numerous, though teen-idol Rick Nelson’s 1963 version is perhaps the most critically loved. Levi's have launched a new project wherein they invite artists into their studio to record a 'Pioneer Session' which involves them covering a classic song which then is committed to video and tape and made available for free to the public. So far Nas and The Swell Season have been in, but most recently they've unvelied She & Him's session where they covered "Fools Rush In", one that has been done several times before but was originally recorded by Rube Bloom and Johnny Mercer in 1940.
