Evans the Death make classic indie pop: short, sweet, melody-driven songs with a noisy, messy intimacy. With their staggering self-titled debut, they've written a perfect pop album. There's nothing I enjoy more than picking out the earliest seeds of talent in an unimpressive new band. "Just you watch," I say, "this band is going to be massive." So it's always a bit disconcerting when a band crashes down out of the blue fully formed. That's why, when I first listened to Evans the Death, I figured it must be a new project from some 40-something Sarah Records veterans. It's [...]

Wonderful UK band Evans The Death 's self-titled debut album is coming out Tuesday May, 1st on Slumberland Records (Fortuna Pop! in the UK). Named after the undertaker in Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood, Evans the Death comprise of Dan Moss (guitar, vocals), Katherine Whitaker (vocals, keys), Olly Moss (guitar), Rob Mitson (drums), and newest member Lan McCardle (bass) – original guitarist Matt Gill having left the band following the completion of the album. Truly, there have been few indie pop bands that have burst onto the scene with such beautiful, lush pop ferocity while somehow maintaining [...]

Threads I'm So Unclean Evans The Death are out of London and they enjoyed some notoriety last year for the double A-sided 'Threads/I'm So Unclean' 7" and are now gearing up for the release of their debut LP in April on Slumberland Records in the U.S. ( Fortuna POP! in U.K.). They have a fully developed, hook-filled, 90mph pop sound that includes a blistering wall of guitars coupled with the exuberant, soulful, and seemingly effortless vocals of Katherine Whitaker. It's a combination [...]

Proving once again to the be best label for Indie Pop Rock bands, Slumberland Records will release the debut album from Evans the Death in April. The band is comprised of Dan Moss (guitar, vocals), Katherine Whitaker (vocals, keys), Olly Moss (guitar), Rob Mitson (drums), and newest member Lan McCardle (bass) - original guitarist Matt Gill having left the band following the completion of the album and takes its name from Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' radio drama Under Milk Wood . Check out one of the band's tasty pop nuggets, "Threads", below. Read [...]
Evans The Death releases their self-titled debut in April, and from the sounds of the video for "I'm So Unclean" it's going to be quite the head-banger. But the five-piece didn't focus on any one particular sound throughout the twelve track debut, so the vibe of one song might not be the vibe of [...]

Facebook Being somewhat of a gig whore around London clashes are part and parcel of my life but this past Tuesdays was particularly annoying because four new bands who I'd have loved to have seen play were all on at the same time, two at each gig, I don't regret my decision to go and see only the second ever gig from Carousels and the London debut of Battlekat - both were bloody excellent and firmly on my 'to see' (mental) list but I do wish I could have a clone sometimes [...]
Evans The Death will be releasing their debut album via Fortuna POP! early next year. Before that though, they release their eagerly anticipated second single 'I’m So Unclean' on 6 September. http://www.myspace.com/evansth edeath
